hey this is going to be my first time on a plane and i just want to know a few simple things like are you allwoed your mobiles on and how d o you stop your ears popping and other things like that - and i know this has nought to do with body adn sole but i have a 02 genie card and when i get to majorca will i be able to text off it or can i not use it abroad :-D x tar
Call O2, your phone may be blocked for use abroad.
Be aware that if anyone phones you that you are liable for the extra cost of call from UK. I have my phone put on answerphone for the time im away so that i dont get charged and text if necessary.
Ward, Im sure more people would send cards if they ever arrived at their destination before we all arrived back from holiday and lost our tans. (ps, glad to see youre still here, everyone else is jumping ship methinks)
under no circumstances are mobiles allowed on planes, even if they have a "flight-safe"mode. As for ears popping i find than just doing nothing until you reach a high altitude can work best. the pressure builds up in your ears so thats simple swallowing will cause it to equalise.. However do it to low down and you might get some air still trapped.
You may have absolutely no problem with ears popping at all, but a small percentage of people (including me) have tons. It's not painful, but no amounts of boiled sweets, yawning and clamping of nose and blowing work. In fact they just make me look a bit odd. I tend to find that I can't hear much at all for a couple hours after the plane has landed, but it seems to clear up off its own accord shortly after. So don't worry if you land and the hearing isn't 100%.
Don't drink alcohol on flight - have one drink then stick to water and soft drinks, I know it sounds boring but it will pay dividends later I promise. Pressurised cabins dehydrate you and alchol makes it worse, if you drink you'll arrive sluggish and with a headache.
to stop ears popping, try yawning or swallowing. The flight doesn't take long, maybe 100 minutes, so one or two drinks won't kill you. You could try flight socks and taking an aspirin to ward off DVT, but again, on a short flight, that's not so necessary. A good mobile phone is of course necessary for taking photos of yourself on the beach and sending straight back to the office to make everyone envious; but check the charges first
