Isn't it so nice when you are in a situation when someone goes that little bit extra to help you , even if it means putting them out or eating into their free time ? For the first time in years , I met a doctor who wasn't just counting numbers with pound signs in her eyes. My three year old daughter became ill last friday and I knew immediately that something was wrong. I took her to my GP and my daughter lost consciousness in the room. My doctor immediately called an ambulance to take her to hospital but what a drama ! My local hospital doesn't have a paediatrics dept so couldn't take her , a neighbouring town refused her because she is under five so I had to go to Glasgow to have her treated. The operator at the ambulance service was squabbling with my GP about boundary regulations , stating that my daughter couldn't have an ambulance outside my boundary. To cut a long story short (Or as short as it gets for me) my GP put up one hell of a fight , locked up the surgery and waited with me for ages outside. When it didn't show , she offered to take my daughter to hospital herself and was putting my daughter in the car when we managed to get the ambulance. She even rang the hospital the following day to make sure that my daughter was okay as she had been up all night worrying about her. She had workmen at home and other issues but wouldn't leave us. Many would have sent us packing to get on with it. Five days later , I am home , daughter is recovering and all is well. Early night for me methinks but what a nice GP. Has anyone made your day with kindness ?

Thank you all. My little girl is doing fine now and laughing and giggling away again. (phew) Just glad to have her home and have a doctor who actually cares about her patients rather than just working through names on a sheet. She IS a credit to her profession mazie. In fact , I will tell her so when I see her again as I am taking my daughter up to the clinic to drop in some choccies when she is up to it. I was touched by how worked up my doctor got at the hassle I had trying to get my daughter to hospital. She told me that it made her so mad that a young , sick child was being passed from pillar to post and she actually shed a tear for my daughter. She more than gets the thumbs up from me. How refreshing though to see someone who cares so much that she would give up her own time to drive a child to hospital herself. The receptionist wanted to send me home to arrange an ambulance myself - which she was enititled to do - but my doctor wasn't having any of it. She was a star and I only wish that there were more like her.
Hi enigma, Your doctor sounds a real caring person, a 100 carat diamond, as you say, isn't it nice when someone does something like this, it restores your faith in human nature.

I wish both you and your daughter well, A magic story.
Hi enigma, Glad the wee yin's doing well now.
Just to let you know in today's Daily Record there is a article on the Scottish Health Awards where you can nominate someone within the NHS who, as you said, is willing to go that extra mile. You can go to www.scottishhealthawards.com for more details.
I'm sure the doctor in question would be delighted that you thought she was worth nominating..X

Oops , nearly forgot to come back to say thank you to you both , Lonnie and Yinyang for your kindness at wishing my daughter well. She is certainly back to her normal self , proper little diva prancing about in her fairy outfits lol ! I feel as if a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders now. There is nothing more worrying I think than when your child is ill and all you can do is sit back helplessly and pray that they will be okay. Never mind , all's well that ends well.

Thanks for your suggestion Yinyang. I put my doctor's name forward , so here's hoping because she is an absolute star in my books. She really deserves credit for being just that - a credit to her profession although from what I know of her , she would probably be very embarrassed by all the attention if she won because she is such a humble woman. Thanks to all who replied - take care guys xxx
