My Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec (52 plate) has been sat on my drive for 2 weeks, whilst I was away on holiday. Have had no problems whatsoever with it.
Worked perfectly after I got back. Only this morning I noticed the engine management light came on and has stayed on. The car runs fine, no weird noises. The only thing I have noticed since coming back is that the radioator fan keeps coming on. I have not noticed the temp gague going up though. Could this be the problem? Could it be that the water levels are low or that the car sitting on a drive for 2 weeks in hot weather has dried up the water level, thus making the fan go on, thus making the engine management light go on?
What do you suggest? I have been advised by a mechanic, a friend of mine, that these lights can come on for the siomplest of things, and has asked me to top up all fluid levels and keep an eye on it. Will the light turn itself off or must it be reset?
As people on here are the real proffessionals, just wanted to know what you thought it could be.
Your friend's right, the engine management light can come on for all sorts of random reasons...unfortunately, they very rarely just turn themselves off again. The only way to sort that is to take it to a dealer to reset, who will charge you a standard diagnostic-reading fee (bit of a swizz really). There's lots of places out there who do have the diagnostic software, so just hunt around.
