The story is that naz posted a thread about the death of a rock star. This got reported and disappeared. I did not see that particular post but I gather there was nothing untoward about it. Understandably, naz was annoyed, and posted another thread in Suggestions (now removed, also). Unfortunately, in that thread s/he decided to create a profane word using various characters. TCL reported THAT thread for being abusive (as is his right if he feels it goes against the Site Rules) and admitted to it. In his/her rage, naz could not see past the red mist that had descended over him/her, and misinterpreted TCLs 'admission' as admission of guilt to reporting the rock star thread. naz then went on to post in various threads in B&S that TCL was responsible for the disappearance of his rock star thread. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon and joined in the assault on TCL. If anyone had bothered to read PROPERLY the thread in question in Suggestions, they would have seen that TCL had admitted to no such thing. Instead, they took the word of naz and, like sheep, when s/he started bleating, so did they. TCL was subjected to verbal abuse, as was I when I tried to help clear the confusion.
I think TCL is deserving of an apology but whether anyone has the good grace to admit they were wrong remains to be seen. We should all be able to report anything we want without getting crucified for it (excepting malicious reporting, of course but, even then, there's no need to react like a spoilt child about it).

Of course we're all entitled to be annoyed if any of our 'legitimate' posts are removed for no apparent reason other than malice but, in my opinion, naz went totally OTT. It's just a post on a question and answer site. It's not the end of the world if it gets removed. It's not like s/he couldn't have posted it again. Instead, we ended up with World War 3 last night.
Maybe the report option should be removed totally. It gets abused a lot and this can lead to a lot of ill-feeling, as we've seen. We all have our own opinions as to what we deam acceptable and what goes against the Site Rules, but it seems some people can't or won't accept other people's opinions and this, too, can cause conflict.
To sum up, as far as I'm aware, there was nothing offensive or abusive about naz's first post about the death of the rock star. naz became annoyed that it got removed, started ranting and becoming abusive (in certain people's opinions which, as I've said, is their right) in his/her subsequent post in Suggestions, then THAT thread got reported for being abusive, naz got the wrong end of the stick totally, and it all kicked off.
Oh, and yes, there might be mainly adults on the site after midnight, naz, but anything that's posted after midnight is still clearly visible in the light of day when youngsters may be around so it's not alright to use that as an excuse to go swearing and cursing just because the kiddies are in bed at the time.

No Genesis your analysis is incorrect, i was involved in all the threads from start to finish and it was not a case of everyone jumping in and having a go at TCL at all, I for one would never do that, TCL repeastedly said he did not report the original and I knew it was not him, i did suggest to him that he should perhaps see how upset Naz was and that adding to the upset by keeping telling them he had reported it was not going to help cos at that time naz had just heard a fave rock star had died, and i likened it to my own experience of the previous nite when my own thank you thread to 4 users who had helped me greatly was repeatedly reported and removed out of sheer spite, anmd then an aber decided to use my follow up decrying thread to post a series of supporting posts about Site Rules and policy, which did nothing to placate my anger and upset.
The thread that was originally removed about the rock star was by no means untoward and should not have been zapped.

I read the posts in B&S after naz had, incorrectly, told everyone that TCL had reported his/her rock star thread. Those threads are now gone, of course, so neither of us can prove anything. However, in my opinion, once naz had made those allegations, people WERE out for TCLs blood, and it annoyed me that they were so quick to blame.
Oh, and as you are always saying Dot, the report option is there to be used. TCL used it, as was his right. How is that pedantic? Are we now to consider people's feelings before we report anything? What's the point of the report option if we have to think about whether or not it's going to offend anyone?
However upset naz was last night, there was absolutely no need at all for the way he carried on - in my opinion.

Dot I am the one being abused for doing no more than reporting an offensive posting. There is no justification whatsover for using the words used initially in the thread and I did no more than report it. The continued abuse was out of order and no-one should be expected to sit back and take that on the chin. He has insulted the Moderators and I suggested his anger was mis-guided. Result-more abuse. He has chosen in his anger to pick on me and I will not accept that what I did was wrong in any way. Genesis has summed up the situation correctly in my opinion and I had to correct your interpretation of ma comments about Moderators. If you think I am pedantic for reporting the use of a profanity then think again
This Board should not be open for those who report postings through malice but neither should Members be subjected to abuse and threats by another. There may be some who would be brow beaten by these tactics but he has picked on the wrong loon.

No that isn't what I said at all, i did not criticise u for reporting the thread that naz put up in suggs using the profanity, i was saying that I understood how naz must be feeling as it had happened to me the night before and that someone then going on and making it more upsetting by igoreing the human element to out posts and pressing for censorship on the grounds of the rules being the rules, was being perdantic,
It is like a funeral procession stopping in the street to let everyone catch up and a traffic warden giving them all a ticket.
noone said u had reported the Rock Star death thread, noone,

I'll miss Naz.
I've only been here a short time and don't know the history of all this, so I'll not comment about it.
For what it's worth I've always found Naz's answers to be all of the following:-
helpful, amusing, observant and (mostly) worth reading.
I understand that there may be issues with other members but for goodness sake how old are we? Go sort it out in a private chat room somewhere PLEASE?

Dot it was naz/Noz who said I reported his question and in response to someone asking how he knew, he posted a link to the thread in which I said I had reported his profanity.
There is a huge difference between being upset and being abusive. I have been abused regarding this matter but you do not see me littering ma responses wi profanities do you? He may have been upset or annoyed but why direct his vile at me?
You are defending him and his words but if they were directed at you, would you feel the same?

Bottom line is, TCL was on the receiving end of sustained and vicious verbal abuse, for something he didn't do, and for something he did do but which he was entitled to. That sort of behaviour is not on, no matter what the circumstances, and should not be tolerated, condoned or defended, and anyone who does so is just as bad, in my book.
If someone can't be adult enough to realise they've made a mistake and apologise, instead of raving on and on, then they don't deserve any defence or sympathy.
TCL - thank you. I was appalled by what went on last night and felt it totally unfair that you should be getting it in the neck.
