hairdressers??

I've just had my haircut and asked for a couple of inches off all the way round (I have long hair) she got a section between her fingers and went down to about 2 inches at the ends and said "About that much" I said yes and so she proceeded to cut about 4 inches off... very upset as my hair is now just below shoulder length as opposed to nearly half way down my back...why do hairdressers do this????

Oh sophie,this has happened to me so many times in the past,whatever a hairdresser says i say its because they're scissor happy,full stop,all i do now is get a friend to trim my ends,hairdressers can colour it but cut it??NO WAY!!

Ahhhh I hate it when they do that!!! Especially when you are trying to grow your hair. Have you complained? I know they cant correct it but I would. Maybe hairdressers arnt able to tell the difference between 2 and 4?

My wife had hair down to her waist and like you went in for a light trim to get rid of the split ends etc. The girl hacked a hug chunk of hair off shoulder length and my wife ended up in tears.This was a good 7 or eight years ago but it's been enough to put my wife off hairdressers for life pretty much. She then met my "tell it like it is sister" who rampaged back into the salon full of customers and yelled the place down, got a refund and an apology but nothing could obviously be done about her hair.Did you, like my wife initially pay for your cut? She's normally a very strong woman but this absolutely devasted her and she meekly paid up. I've heard a lot of women with the same gripe and my only suggestion is that whenever they do this you refuse to pay as it's the only leverage that you have against them. As to why they do it, I have no idea, maybe it's a power trip, or maybe they are just stupid, but I know it's devastating for the woman concerned.

yeh spose i shouldve said summat while I was there but like you say theres nothing they can do bout it now! think ill have to do what my brother did...he said to the woman cutting his hair "can you take a really little bit off at a time cos last time they did it way too short" although it took them ages he came back with the right length!

thing is I didnt realise just how short it was till I got home and had a proper look!

Doesnt matter that you didnt realise there and then. I had my roots done at a new salon, didnt realise how orange they had gone untill I got home and saw them under proper light. I went in the next day and complined for britain, got a refund an offer of a correction ( which I refused) and a grovelling apology. Its the least they can do for you hun! x

ive had this experience..horrible. ive been cutting my own hair now for about 15 years. i go to an expensive salon to have it coloured and the owner (who colours it) frequently asks who cuts my hair as it is a great cut!!! hehe, ive never had training, i just use common sense, take my time, have good scissors and trust myself completely!!!

or you poor thing,that has happend to me before and when i do have my hair cut im really scarred and im watching everything they do now

I would usually complain like mad when things aren't satisfactory but I don't want to on this occasion for some reason! I'll just say summat the next time I think.

Happened to me too, although the change was a lot more dramatic...I had shoulder length hair, and wanted to go for a short, spiky, funky cut....so I went to the salon and said "please do NOt make it too short, as I want to be able to style it ". The girl proceeded to take a huge chunk of my hair, lift it above my head and chopped it off about one inch from the scalp!!!!! I seriously almost fainted, and felt sick to my stomach! But she had to cut all of it the same length after that or it would have looked even worse....so i ended up with a military/special forces style haircut, about an inch long! Absolutely awful. And yes, I paid for it....:-(

I had a disaster with a root perm once and was advised by a legal friend that you do have a certain amount of recourse. You need to contact the manager/owner and tell them how upset you are and ask what they intend to do about it. They have to be given the chance to rectify the situation. Obviously they can't grow your hair but perhaps a colour or voucher for your next appointment.

Hi there sophie, I had another really bad experience too. I had the most amazing hairdresser where I used to live, but moved several 100 miles away so had to find another salon. Went to one locally, who proceeded to destroy my long long hair, and then asked if I wanted it curled? I thought, yes ok, he'll use tongs like my original hairdresser... but no, he dried my hair with an attachment on a hairdryer, and when I looked up I nearly screamed!!! I looked like a throwback from the 80's!!! and my hair felt like it was going to break with all the crap he'd put in it.
I cried for 3 days, couldn't do anything with it and now will only make a pilgrimage to my beautiful hairdresser.
The consequences for the salon? I sat in a cafe and slated them to my sis and she then will slate them to her group of girlfriends who will carry on with slating them.
I hope to see it closed down soon.

i am a girl and i like my hair but unless it fell out or went green i really don't imagine i could cry for days about it being a couple of inches shorter than i wanted it. I am not having a go (before everyone starts shouting at me ) but think it really could be worse

I didn't cry about mine myself, but I can understand why people would. Your hair is something that you can't hide and if you don't like the way it looks it can really be a blow to the confidence!

not if its as bad as some people on here have described, of course you could wear a hat but what about when, for example, you go out to eat, you can't wear a hat then!

sorry, bit more to the story than that. I have M.S and I was asked by this hairdresser to hold my head down for a long time. I nearly passed out because I didn't want to start explaining why it wasn't a good idea for me to do that.
When I got home, and had washed what I could, after I dried it I had 2 different haircuts going on.
I think my emotional condition is more down to the disease than anything, but I still am mortified this salon can charge more than a barbers. In fact I'd rather go to one. :-) xXx

Hairdressers are ridiculously over priced, I got my friend (who at the time was training to be a hairdresser) to cut mine once and she did it absolutely perfect but shes working full time now so never has the time to do it, she charged me next to nothing as well, had to force some extra money on her!
