hiya, it is a very common condition and the GP can sort it very easily, i have had an underactive thyroid since the early 1990s at least, symptoms of both conditions do not become apparent for some time. Don't worry, many ABers have one or other of the conditions and they will say the same I guess,

over active is not serious where as under active is
Overactive can be very serious, in extreme cases leading to a thyroidectomy or treatment with radioactive iodine. It depends on just how overactive you are. Please dont be complacent about it.
They are both easily controlled by medication depending on the levels. The blood test will tell how low or high your thyroid function is. Don't worry ....lots of people suffer with this .I have an underactive thyroid and am on medication to keep it under control .My Mum had the same and my sister had overactive .Do not be alarmed !
The medication just replaces the hormone that your body is not producing.
If it is borderline they are loathe to prescribe as the meds can make you hyper and vice versa.
Take the advice of your GP ...who is the best person to sort it out for you. Good luck.
underactive isn't serious it's never bothered me in nearly 20 years as long as i take the medication
