crowns dentist cost

hi i have an allergy to nickel and I asked my dentist if the N.H.S crowns contain nickel , he said yes and i will have to pay �350.00 per crown.Both are on my rear teeth is this right ?.

As far as I know, you can have the back teeth done this way too but you will have to pay for them, Between �40 and 60 I am told. Oh and ... time to change your dentist me thinks!!! Mind you, with the recent changes that have been made, this may no longer be the case, but ask another dentist for a second opinion. Good Luck!
If you pay for your NHS treatment then the maximum charge on the NHS is band 3 and is �189 (this is for anything involving lab. work e.g. crowns).
In theory an alternative material should be available, however the NHS remit strictly speaking is too make you dentally fit and that wouldn't always cover having crown work on the NHS. Unfortunatley that would might mean having a private crown. Crowns are expensive not usually �350 however but then there are not usually Nickel free (makes the lab. bills much higher!!), you may be able to find a cheaper quote however.
