thanks for the ideas. i was hoping one of you might be right but so far no good. it had become slightly loose lately so i fear it may have just fallen off, (i never used to take it off)but i will keep trying to look. thanks everyone

Do you own a metal detector?

You need to buy one of those 'clappy' rings. Like car keys that when you clap they give off an alarm signal. If they haven't invented 'clappy' rings yet then there could be a niche in the market for you!

i lost a ring once and it was bizarre because we hadn't left the room and had had it only half an hour earlier - we turned the place upside down and were baffled... we eventually found it quite by accident - in the tread of my bf's shoes!! it had wedged itself in there!

i havent got a piano, but i am still looking. the car seems a good place but i had a quick look earlier and couldnt see it.
