Hi all, good post newtron. I had a nose job about 20 years ago now and it was the best thing I ever did! I think cosmetic surgery for vanity, very much depends on how much you let your looks impact on your life. This of course is not helped by the images we are bombarded with on a daily basis, of the 'beautiful people'. I think just getting on with your own life and dealing with your looks is easier said than done, especially if you are a target for some sad people who have to put you down just to make themselves feel better.
Some people are truly not bothered by how good or how bad they look, others go to great lengths to look as good as they can. For me, after my marriage broke up, I started to go out clubbing again and then got some cruel remarks about my big nose. My confidence was low anyway but once it got to the point where I did not want people to see me in profile and where after one taunt in a pub, I spent the next 3 hours crying in the toilet, I decided that I had to do something about it! Also at this point, my very down to earth friend who had been advising me against going for surgery, said to me 'Sue for gods sake, get it done!' She could see the effect it was having on my life.
After going via my doctor, I booked myself in, and the result was fantastic! It changed my whole outlook and my confidence was boosted about 80%!
I feel that if someone wants surgery done, as long as they know the risks and are realistic about the result then they should go for it!
Cheers Sue
