Sounds more like a track rod end badly worn - worn cv joint would not affect steering. Not an expensive fix if it's the track rod end.
as homer said, a worn cv shouldnt affect your steering, but would give a clicking when the wheels are turned....

if the track rod end has gone it will need replacing and you will need to get the tracking checked/re-set.....
A worn CV joint can effect the steering if it is worn enough,
If the car has been used mostly for straight line driving (motorways etc..) then the joints get worn only in the centre position, the clicking noise is the balls inside the joint jumping from the worn to the unworn part of the joint when turning and this can transfer enough energy to make the steering shake slighty on full lock.
