Is there any problems with taking a 75mg asprin every day without seeing the doctor.

I'm over weight due to giving up smoking 2 years ago :o( and don't suffer with any stomach ulcers etc.

I'm taking the asprin purely as a preventative for strokes, heart attacks etc.

Any medicine you take you should really ok with your doctor, if anything so that he can monitor you in case it does have a negative effect. Although aspirin was found to have beneficial effects, like any other drug it still has a lot of problems associated with it especially with the prolonged use. Speak to your doctor, he/she will recommend if and how long you should take aspirin. Besides there might be some alternatives.

Aparently, it is wrong to assume that everyone should take low dose Aspirin on a daily basis. You should only take regular Aspirin if recommended by your doctor. There was a report in the papers a few months go, in which doctors were saying that unnecessary intake of Aspirin can cause problems, so people should always consult their doctors before taking it. If you have a family history of stroke or other heart problems, your doctor will prescribe you the right preventative medication. Best wishes.

I really would check this out with the doctor really and like Justsia said - there may be a better alternative to take. As over taking pain killers can actually lead to liver damage etc.

Hi hammerman,

My hubby is on 75mg aspirin (dispersable) daily. Having had angina (thankfully no other medication is now required), it is still prescribed by our GP with regards to thinning the blood. As already advised by other ABers, it is a medication, and should be only used on your doc's OK...
Various factors are: not suitable, especially with other medication; allergic reaction; not required (blood does not need thinning). It must always be taken after meals (pref in the morning) to avoid stomach bleeds.

So, along with the other peeps - go see your doctor!!

i was advised two years ago to take a daily low dose aspirin to ward off strokes etc and help my heart etc. as I had a tendancy towards high BP. Since then, I have developed a hiatus hernia, daily heartburn and antigestion and they are testing me for a stomach ulcer. I blame the aspirin. Good luck with your decision.
