Hopefully the dermatologist will have the sense to put you on Roaccutane. It's really really aggressive but your acne will be gone in about a week, I promise!I was on it for 9 months and my acne cleared up really really quickly. You have to be on an oral contraceptive (if you're a girl!) , she'll do a pregnancy test and it has to be negative for you to be prescribed the drug. You'll have to get a blood test done too and get one done every 6 weeks while you're on it- the rules are very strict on it as it is a serious depressant and has been linked with suicide. The dermatologist will probably take a good look at your skin first witha bright light -just to see what kinda of spots you have etc. Good luck!and ask to be put on Roaccutane if she doesn't prescribe it herself.

thanks that sounds really good apart from the suicidal bit what about scars then coz i also have lots of them and im on a contraceptive pill called dianette that was for my spots but hasnt seem to do anything
I heard all the controversy about roaccutane, then they put one of my friends on it and I warned her about it, she went back to the doctor and he said that problems have only affected about one in every 2000 people that are prescribed it, much the same as anything else they prescribe. Good luck anyway
You may have to try other things before they prescribe Roaccutane, it depends what your gp has already done about it with regards to antibiotics etc and if you actually stuck with what the gp prescribed. It also depends how severe yor acne is, and if it has taken 9 years for your gp to refer you to dermatology then maybe it is not as severe as you think. Your best bet in securing a course of Roaccutane is keep stressing how much the acne upsets you and affects your confidence, and if it restricts you from living your life to the full ie being too embarrassed to go swimming or wear certain kinds of clothing. Please do some research on Roaccutane first too because it CAN have severe side effects, some of which are not reversible.

hello,

This is just a little suggestions, I used to be under my doctor or ance/skin problems (although they werent very savere). I posted a question a few weeks ago and got the best advice ever! My skin is so clear, even my collegue say i look radient! try this....

Wash your face 3-4 times a day with a mild soap (I'm using simply), add a little light moisturiser if needed, or leave your skin to breath. At night, wash your face once again with the mild soap and then apply a thin layer of Sudocrem (nappy rash stuff).....
your skin should clear in a few days.

This is now my daily routine! I used to 'over use' products and found that this dried my skin and stripped it of it's moisture and natural oils. I never thought of Sudocrem but having read the container, it is for minor skin problems, including spots and acne.

Good luck :)
