Diet Fads

Following on from Goodsoutlette's thread yesterday about being a UK Size 4, Lala made a very interesting point about being around people who obsess about diets.
I usually work for small companies which I find a lot less imposing when it comes to your own image. Now that I'm back working for a Corporate, I've already noticed my work colleagues discuss weight, celebrities etc. etc. I never join in with these discussions because; a) I don't entertain media around celebrities, and b) I don't believe in short-term diets.
But I'm interested to know how many of you feel pressure from friends/colleagues regarding your own image. Do you find that you are more conscious of your weight if you have people around you who discuss diets/weight/perfect bodies etc. a lot? Or do you have a relaxed attitude about your own image that nobody could ever change because you are happy in your own skin?

Never worry about my weight, not even post baby (when I was pretty massive, I'd gained 50% of my body weight during pregnancy). I just eat what I want and as long as I feel ok, I don't worry. Tho in sayign that, I'm a size 8/10 most of the time. Can't remember the last time I even weighed myself. Am lucky, my friends are entirely un self obsessed and we just never, ever discuss diets etc. infact, I've never known any of my close circle of pals to be on diets (two of them are size 18, but happy). Think it's partly to do with being in our 30s, you get more at home in your own skin and to be honest, these stick insect, lolly headed waifs are not something I have ever wanted to attain for myself, even when younger. As a general rule, I find the more obsessed people are with how they look, the less interesting they are to be around.
Good question Champers.
Personally I feel good about myself - until I meet my friends.I have put a bit of weight on and and bigger than I used to be,and while in prortion I still have big boobs, bum etc.So when I see my friends and they are whinging about how big they are (they are not!!) it makes me think, "Well if you think you are fat then you must think I am bloody huge".
I said this to one of them once and she said she wasnt insulting me,but I said you must be as you are at least 3 stone lighter than me and you are calling yourself fat!
Drives me mad!! Aggghhh!! Feel better now!
Personally I think I look fine, and boyfriend is more than happy so who gives a monkeys knackers if we are a size 4 or a 24??

I'm am heavier now than I was in my 20's but I eat much more healthily now and I'm ill less often because then I was probably too thin - not through trying just naturally. I'm not saying I wouldn't like my 25 year old body back because it was pretty damn hot but I can live with myself as I am. However my husband bless him can't quite equate that I'm not 28 anymore and that not only my body is different but his is too. He's always on at me to lose wight but I just tell him to shut up lol!
I really think it's all a state of mind.
I never obsess about my body. I only have one chance at being me so the last thing I'm going to do is fret about insignificant issues. I'm not adverse to making positive changes to myself in any way (attitude, health or anything), but always within my own achievable boundaries.
I wasn't always like that though. When I was 19 or 20 I was so naive and never appreciated just how good I had it. But I was lucky to learn fairly early that life is just too damn short!
I am now fully aware of my own body, and how good I can make it and how good I can look if I try. Nobody, not even friends, family or boyfriend, would get away with criticising my appearance. Or anything else for that matter!
