Daddylonglegs /Crane flys

Okay it's that time of the year again, and I'm terrified. Is anyone else afraid of these horrible creatures or is it just me? I know they are harmless, but I can't stand them. I keep all the windows closed, although the weather is warm, but they still turn up in my bedroom and poor hubby has to put up with my screams of sheer terror. I've even planned my holiday this year to get away from them. I'm going away for two weeks tomorrow. How sad is that?

iam petrified of these nasty thinngs too!! ewww a few years ago my mums back garden was overrun with them flies i spent most of the time screaming with my hands over my ears lol!

im scared of anything like that flies bees weird winged bugs etc the thought of them makes me shudder.

ps: i also keep my windows shut :) happy swotting

a cat is a great anti-insect companion. Both of ours spend many happy days chasing all manner of beasties. Daddylonglegs are a particular fave as they don't fly too fast and are easily broken up ie eat the legs off and watch them shuffle. Or alternatively, an inquisitive toddler will squash them while trying to check out the insect lmao. Also, and it works, cos our neighbour is almost phobic about any insect you care to name, these anti-insect sonic, plug in emmitters work brilliantly. Give it a go. One plugged in downstairs will adequately cover most semi-detached sized houses.

Did you know that they are the thing that most people in the UK are scared of I saw a artical on it (cant find it now!) Is it true that they contain the worlds deadliest poison but cant use it?

If you hate spiders,then the daddy is your friend, he will eat most house spiders.including them big one's .So if you hate spiders, take a daddy-long-legs spider as a pet!I call mine ziggy░/\o/\ ░..(:o)

Sorry thats not true, they only live for 2 days and dont eat anything at all!

There is a bit of confusion here, I think the questioner means crane fly, which are often called daddy long legs. There is also the Daddy long legs that is actually a spider and that does eat other spiders. I think that's what Vinny is referring to.

I have a REAL bad fear of insects n stuff, (if its not cat, dog or human, im afraid of it!!) but I hate these little blighters the worst, I had 4 of them in my hall and I wouldnt leave the room all night (nearly wetting myself lol) I can't wait til they go away again!!!
