Playground Games
28 Answers
Bit of a feel good question, taking us back to our youth.
Talking in the office this morning I was shocked to find out one of my colleagues didn't play Kiss Chase at primary school!! I had assumed this was part of everyones childhood.
This evolved into an open forum of our whole team discussing playground games, Kiss, Cudle or Torture, 40/40, British Bulldog, What's the time Mr Wolf, Stuck in the Mud. We were all at primary school in the 80's.
What games do you remember fondly?

I remember (being an only child) not having anyone to hold my elastics and using two chairs so that I could still do that skipping game... Granny put her knickers on, inside, out, twist off....

and think of all the compensation claims/ abuse claims. Letigious nightmare!! It's a pity though-those games were fun and made us tough!! I remember when I got a load of gravel embedded in my face after particularly spectacular fall playing kiss, cuddle or torture (really didn't want to be caught) and the infant teacher put witch hazel on it. They'd have to call an ambulance these days!

One of my fav exploits was doing a somersault on some bars, and not realising that I had had a growth spurt swung round and split my head open on the floor... another time doing a particularly tricky forward roll managing to give myself a black eye with my knees.
I think I was a bit of an accident prone tit as a kid, nowt changes, you are reading words from someone who snapped their achillies tendon walking down a step.

And all the skipping game songs that we used to sing were awesome!
"I went to a chinese restaurant to buy a loaf of bread, bread bread/ they wrapped it up in a five pound note and this is what they said said said/.....my name is Andy Pandy, sugar and candy, mum's had a baby, dad's gone crazy;
Do me a favour - get lost!"

ring a ring a roses
off ground tick, knock and run, forts, piggy in the middle, blind mans bluff, leapfrog, hand stands, cartwheels, catch
there was also the hand clapping ones, where 2 kids - girls mainly - would do a kind of clappy routine while singing a rhyme
we also had one with a tennis ball in one leg of a tight, and you stood back to the wall and banged it on the wall either side of you in formation - it wasn't great admittedly
there was also my favourites - picking scabs, eating puddle ice and drawing on your skin
eeh, them wert days...
