How are people identified by dental records, where would you start to look for the appropriate dentist....?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I always thought this worked the other way around, in that the police/forensics 'post' the dental records, and dentists will then check if it looks like their work on one of their patients. If so, they check their records fully, and report to the police/forensics if it is one of their patients. I could very easily be wrong in these thoughts.
