Ladies: Does anyone else find they cannot go to the loo in the workplace if someone comes and uses the loo next to you and it goes reeeeaaaallly quiet? I swear I cannot be the only person, as it always seems to bother the person next to me too!

lol ! I'm exactly the same....don't you love the 5 -10 seconds of silence you get until one of you plucks up the courage to "go" ?
And also, when you both come out of the cubicles at the same time, start to wash your hands, and all the while you're thinking "Hey, I've just heard you pee! " ...lol !
im the same aswell, im really fussy about where ill go to the toilet when im out as well.. usually only marks & spencers!
i have to admit to sometimes lining the toilet with toilet paper, so my wee trickles in slowly rather than being a noisy one.

however, if i need a poo... and i really need to go, i will either flush the chain first, and then poo when the cistern is filling or just wait until i know I'm the only one in there and then do it!!

silly i know, but true!!
Thanks neenee, now i know i'm not the only one!!!
I am so glad there are more people like me out there!
me too me too! and i hover over the seat too! i told a my ex that women don't like weeing and defo not pooing when someone else can here them and he thought it was hilarious! presumably men just poo and fart and they all think its great!!
Well at my place of work we're all quite at ease with toilet stuff - we have to be, we have a woman at work who refuses to make sure her business has been flushed properly so one of us is always getting an unpleasant surprise!
I wouldn't do a number two in the presence of others and I know plenty of people who won't go at all at work, but I have IBS so I don't always have a choice! I always do the flushing thing first though!
Shy Bladder Syndrome! lol, that's actually what it's called would you believe!?

try taking your mp3 player with you, then you wont know someone is in there, it cured my shy bladdered friend :o)

I don't see why they don't install piped music in these places!!
i have ibs too ...i find places like motorway services stations are fine cos they are always noisy - flushing, handryers going etc.
I had a mate at college who hated pooing in public loos - she used to drag me into the loos and make me continuously turn the hand dryer on while she pooed so no one would hear if they came in and so I wouldn't hear!!!
i went for a number 2 in my office loo and it wouldnt flush. i put all sorts of things down..jiff, duck, bleach, everything. in the end i had to leave it and intended going back in a few mins (we only have one between about 10 of us)...anyway i forgot and next thing the cleaner comes barging in, shouting and bawling that some 'dirty pig' had left one and started to interrogate everyone in the office. thankfully, im a great liar and totally denied it..how embarrasing, we are scared of the cleaner big time!!!
Heh Heh I also have IBS! The sudden urge to poo my pants isnt very comfortable. Yesterday went to doctor and whilst waiting for my turn had the sudden urge. Unfonrtunately I knew that I was next so if i went to the toilet then and the doctor called my name, I would have lost my turn and created all sorts of embarassment afterwards, explaining it! So...I started to sweat and move my butt around hoping it would go away and managed to keep everything in place for 10 mins until doc called me in!
I've had a really good giggle at the answers to this question and I can only say it's a good job none of you were alive in ancient Rome as the public toilets didn't even have cubicles and people would sit, chat and watch one another. My maxim in public loos is to 'cough when you plop.'
It's not just "ladies". The same anxieties afflict men too. If there's someone in another cubicle, I prefer to either wait until they've gone or to, er, speed things up and make as quick a getaway as I can, so I don't have to put a face to the noises or vice versa!

I was under the impression that women conducted in-depth inter-cubicle conversations. Glad to see that's not the case.
LOL chrissiekins. I agree! I have a solution and although it may not work for everybody it certainly does for me. I put my fingers in my ears when I pee! (I love the anonymity of this website!). That way YOU don't hear what you or anybody else does.
Likewise, if you were to be locked out of the house naked, what would you cover? I'd cover my eyes. That's the shy person's logic.
