Hungry after a late meal

I went for a meal at about 9pm last night and woke up absolutely starving this morning. I didn't think it would be enough time to digest properly as I probably finished the meal at 10.30, went to bed at 12 and woke at 6.00 for work.

Why is this?

Sorry, can't help you there... but I always wake up absolutley ravenous if I've had a big meal quite late the night before... be interested in the answers!
I'm afraid i can't explain why either but just to reassure you that this happens to me too!! No matter how late i eat or even if it was a huge amount i ALWAYS wake up more hungry than usual! I am very interested in any answers too!!xx
without wanting to sound repetitious - Ditto the previous answers!

if i eat at a normal time i'm not that hungry when i wake up, but just like you, if i eat a big meal, late, i always wake up starving!!!
When you sleep or rest you don't burn many calories at all, but if you've eaten before sleep the body is having to burn lots of calories/energy digesting the food, so even though you've been asleep, your body has been busy working

Hope this makes sense

Wow, does that mean that you can lose weight sleeping on a full stomach? I would have thought that late night meals and no excercise would be really bad!

Or maybe not as it probably means that your digestive system is working over time!
maybe youre eating for two !!!!!
same as you lot..... i wondered if you stretched your stomach eating a large meal and it doesnt go back to its proper size overnight, therefore the larger vessel is poportionately emptier?
