UK decimal coinage was introduced in Feb 1971. I have a 1979 2pence piece that has the words 'NEW PENCE' on the reverse where current coins say 'TWO PENCE'. When did the mint change from 'new' to 'two' and did this occur on other value coins too ?

in 1982 the became 'two pence'. In 1992, they became magnetic and thicker. http://www.tclayton.demon.co.uk/decbr.html :-)

Thank you. A very informative link. I did notice that some 1983 2pence coins still had the "new pence" reverse, but I'll not send the hit squad round for that small error.
Didn't you read about 'The 1983 error' Chijiki? google has that too, sory forgot to mention. ;-)
All the above information, including that about the 1983 errors is available at:- http://www.24carat.co.uk/1983errortwopencestory.html
