Hi there,
my daughter will be 5 a few days before christmas and has never had a birthday party (for various reasons). This year she has started school and I would love to give her a birthday party.
so I plan to have the party a few weeks before her birthday before we break up. We have a mini marquee which we will put up in the garden attached to the house as a party area with blow heaters in. I plan to have lots of fairy lights and the obligatory white christmas tree etc...
I was thinking of a winter barbeque at the end for winter warming.
However, i need suggestions for activities or games to play along the theme of winter/snowflake etc and other suggestions for food. I don't mind planning crafting or anything of that nature rather than just games, and am open to all sorts of suggestions.
so, what am I missing? and how can i make this a magical party for a little christmas birthday who always feels as though her birthday gets bypassed cos of christmas?
many thanks
mimi

Hi, What about a visit from Santa himself! He could hand out the Party bags!!! If you don't mind crafting, what about getting each child to personalise a bauble...mind you I suppose that's a bit Christmassy....missed the point haven't I....lol. Will have to ponder this one and get back to you.

We've two christmas kids at our house. One was born on Christmas day and the other the day after. So, we've had to be (actually Mrs. C has had to be) quite creative. Firstly, if you're fortunate enough to actually have snow, as we usually do, make "snow angels" and write the birthday childs name in food coloring mixed with water aover the head of the "angel" in large letters. Secondly, freeze some different sizes of containers, some large, samll and in between, of food colored water. Take them out of the freeser and invite the other children (outside is best) to make various sized houses and sculptures from the blocks. Thirdly, we find it pretty easy to locate a Christmas or winter themed pin'ata. Nothing entertains kids like breaking a pin'ata for the goodies inside. We've done some other things, but one that goes over well are the following two fondue recipes. They're easy and it also keeps the kids entertained:
CHEESE FONDUE
1 10 1/2-oz. can cheddar cheese soup
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
Soft and hard bread sticks
Apple and pear slices, celery sticks, raw broccoli florets
Combine the soup and grated cheese, and microwave on High for 2 minutes. Serve with the bread sticks, fruit, celery and maybe carrot sticks. (Some like animal crackers too)
CHOCOLATE FONDUE
1 cup chocolate chips
4 tbsp. skim milk
Fruit, marshmallows, brownies, angel food cake
Peppermint sticks for skewers
Crushed candy, sprinkles, chopped nuts
Combine the chocolate chips and skim milk, and microwave on High for 1 minute. Stir, then microwave for another 30 seconds. Skewer fruit, marshmallows or cake on the peppermint sticks. Let the kids dip then roll their treats in the crushed candy, sprinkles and nuts.
Best of luck!

thank you you guys, I'm very touched and pleased at the ideas you guys have. Clanad, I didn't know you had to christmas birthdays. Thoses dates are hard! My little girl is on the 22 which by comparison, isn't too bad and then my youngest girl is on the 4th of jan which is kind of worse as it is easier to forget post party!
however, there are some excellent ideas there, I m sure I shall be utilising them all!
cheers

I haven't looked on the websites posted so I hope I'm not repeating this but what about making 'snowflakes'. I remember doing this in infant school every winter.
Have pre cut round pieces of paper, fold them in quarters and cut a pattern out of the fold. Open up and you have your very own individual snowflake. There is also a way of doing this making a string of snowmen holding hands but I can't quite remember how to do it. I think you fold a square piece of paper over lots of times, draw half of your snowman shape on the folded edge of the paper. Cut it out, open up the piece you have cut out and voila - I think!! Snowflakes definitely work though.
The only drawback with this is it could get a bit messy if there's lots of kids there and you'd have to be extremely mindful with the scissors. Maybe you could do some beforehand and use them as decoration or something.
Good luck with it, sounds fab already. My niece is 2 on 28th Dec so I will pass these ideas on for when she starts having parties.

Hi - my daughter was born on the 20th and last year we hired Fairy Charlotte. Now of course this depends on where you live - we are in Devon - however I think she would travel.
She is wonderful she dresses like a fairy - organises games - children make fairy wings and other fairy things - she comes with backdrop and toadstalls. She even helps feed the kids!
If there are boys she has things for them too. I tried it on my own once - with games etc but never again - sadly kids seem to want more than pin the tail on the Donkey! My daughter is now 6 and since her party when 4 we have been to 10 Fairy Charlotte parties and she still enjoys them!
