Hi all, hope you can help me out, but I've put this in parenting too!!!

My son (nearly 4) hasn't been able to get to sleep for the last 4 nights as he is scared!!

He has explained that he is scared of a 'problm blob' (a character on the Numberjacks programme). We've explained that its not real, stopped hem watching it, told him it's just on TV, Mammy and Daddy are there, will keep him safe etc - but its not working !!

He was absolutely hysterical last night and couldn't even tell us what it was about but this morning he told us it was the 'problem blob' again!!

Any ideas appreciated!

Good idea wardy, it might well work, give it a go,put a little drop in warm milk. hope you get it sorted poor little lad.
We had the same problem with our son Petes. His fear was the old channel four logo shaped like a number 4,dunno if you remember it? We did everything you've done but no joy until I sat with him on the floor emptied out all of his plastic numbers and asked him to make a "Channel 4 shape" Its took roughly 4 days and evenings but it cured him! Can you do the same? Hope this helps. Daisy.x
I know this sounds silly but can he hear your TV in his bedroom. We had similar problems with my son and one evening he was so distressed I got into bed with him, I realised you could hear all the creepy music (Mr Hellion likes creepy films) coming through the floor.
I can only suggest light on low, and playing a CD of someone reading a story - my son still does this he loves, Alan Bennett reading Winnie the Pooh and - it cuts out outside noises and is comforting. We also have a tankful of goldfish by his bed which keep him company (you can buy a kit with a light for about 30). Haven't had so many problems recently.

I'm not sure they fully understand the concept of dreams at age 4 so it just seems 'real' to them.

Whisky in hot milk works for me it's my favourite bedtime drink lol!
Be aware of shadows in the room, My niece had dreadful problems with seeing people walking around in her bedroom (ground level bedroom) it wasn't until I turned the light off to settle her down that I saw the shadows of people on the walls from the street light outside the window.

Thanks for all the answers so far.

Unfortunately, there can be a lot of background noise in his room as we live in a downstairs flat and our neighbours seem to have some kind of DIY fetish going on - its been constant for about 3 years now!!!

He's got a night light but there could be some shadows so I'll check that out too!

on a programme that could of been supernanny, they got a 'magic' wand and said a poem type chant which asked the bad things to go away and sprinkled some fairy dust(glitter). maybe you could give that a go.
Hi I'm going through the same thing with my Son at the moment he will be four in just over a week and cant explain himself very weel, he keeps waking in the night quite distressed and coming into our bed,

I'm not sure what to do with the problem but just thought i'd let you know you are not alone prehaps its there age?

I also found that letting him watch Chicken Little with his older brother was a bad idea because he kept waing up shouting die die were going to die, which is horrible for someone that age to say.
Just posted an answer for you in parenting. Thought Spurslady might like to know that a dream catcher sorted out my daughter's problem with nightmares.
Thats whay I did - bought a dream catcher and on the whole it worked pretty well.
