Re: changing shifts.. + problems with manager!
1 Answers
Thanks for your comments on my question a few weeks back about swapping work shifts around. It EVENTUALLY got sorted and everything was fine!
What really gets to me is that today someone wrote a note to my Manager & was asking to swap shifts for the 16th nov. & my manager was more than happy to oblige!! She even was offering for the girl to have the day of as "its not a problem to swap round and get someone to cover you"!!! I was so angry, why is it i asked the same thing and yet we got completely different answers!!
Another thing i get annoyed about is that i have worked there from Febuary (a clothes shop doing 16hrs a week), and a lady who is in her late 30's (im 18) doing just a few more hours than me who started just after me is trained for doing everything staff discount, returns, training other staff! Where as i can't even do refunds! This really gets me annoyed even though theres nothing i can do about it.
I am also always down to do the same things all the time - in the fitting room for half my shift & then clearing the rail in the fitting room for the other half, and i found out today the manager has promoted a girl who is 17 (she works about the same hours as me) & has only been there a month (or so) to be in charge of our gifts section because she is "fed up of always seeing her only doing fitting room & clear rail"!!
I feel so angry about all of this! Do you think i have reason to be annoyed or am i just over-reacting??
sorry for the rant!

If you are positive and show creativity, enthusiasm and drive, you will be given a bit more responsibility within a month and it wil lgrow from there, so long as you do well and stay self-aware about how you come across to others - not fake, not impatient, just easy going and professional!
If you are withdrawn and resenrful, it will come across loud and clear and would not encourage any employer to give you more responsiblity.
I say all of this to be constructive and am not totally aware of your working envoronment. It sounds like a 'favouritism culture', where you may have to fight a bit more (constructively of course!) to get noticed.
You can rise above anger, prove yourself and see the benefits in time or, look for something else that will make you happier, if you feel that you can't / dont want to put on a bit of an 'act' for a while. If the job is right for you and you do go for it, the rewards will come, I assure you.
Either way, good luck to you. You sound an intelligent person who has ambition, so in the long term you will be just fine. Dont worry, It can take a while to settle into the right career 'grove'.
Be Happy, try hard.
