Does Saddam deserve to die?

Saddam sentenced to death. The former Iraqi leader has been convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death by hanging.
Does Saddam deserve to die?
Or is this Hypocrisy ?

In almost any other case I would say I was against the death penalty... but... I can't help feeling..... Is there any positive purpose he can serve in the world? He seems as defiant as ever. Will his death CAUSE more deaths though?

There's not much point really. The man is in his 60s, he might have ten more years left in his tank anyway, he has lived most of his life now so 'life' really wont mean life in this case.

to execute him is to be lenient with him, he is put out of his misery, he should spend the rest of his life in prison, not the type where they enjoy good food, tv and snooker but a small dirty cell with rats and cockroaches and bread and water each day, plus a smelly old mattress and one blanket to sleep on, let him suffer untill he dies, THATS WHAT THE b*****D deserves.

I have no problem with Saddam facing the death penalty, but I do have a problem with us not being able to manage to give him a fair trial and to be seen to be doing justice properly. Now all that's going to happen is his followers will bleat on and on about the standard of the trial and he'll become a martyr, resulting in a greater loss of life. Bush and Blair are disgusting a deserving of trial as well, for sending their countrymen to their deaths in a war that couldn't be won and shouldn't have been fought, in a country not their own.
