The big 30
21 Answers
I'm going to turn 30 on Christmas day and usually my birthday passes by without much thought as mostly busy with other things, but this year I'm dreading it.
I don't want to be thirty.
I'm so sad please can anyone cheer me up with anything positive about being thirty.

Now that i am 30 it isn't any different and like everyone else has said it is just a number. In the lead up to my birthday i was going out a lot and drinking far too much just because i couldn't bear the thought of not being in my 20's anymore but now i realise that nothing has changed inside me, i am still the same person that i was before my birthday. Hope you manage to have a great birthday and try not to worry about your age x
I felt exactly the same as you ronnie!
I was dreading leaving my 20's & then to top it all, Elvis Presley died on my 30th birthday (16 Aug 87), so I had really good reason to cry then!
Ten years on from that - I had a brilliant 40th birthday, as my husband & daughters gave me a big surprise party in a hall & everyone who I loved was there! It's a night I shall never forget!
Trust me - it's not really as bad as you may think & apart from the celebrations of them, birthdays are just another day!
P.S. Our little Granddaughter got muddled up the other day & reminded me that I was '95'! Thankfully, she meant '59', which made me feel much better!!!!

Just think.......40 is much worse! And as for 50 - well, I'm not quite there yet but to be honest I'm not a bit bothered these days. You really are as old as you feel. Age is only important if you're a cheese!
However, before I realised this, on my 40th birthday I felt so bad about it I just refused to acknowledge it and didn't open any cards or pressies until the next day, when funnily enough, it didn't matter...cos it wasn't my birthday. Ha! Ha!...Yes I know I'm strange....

Hi ronnie3...I am a 32 years young lady...closer to 33 now tho...I am proud of it..better than my 20's...i wasn't even worried when I was approaching my 30th...didn't bother me at all..I think in your 30's you don't give a stuff at what people think anymore!! Lifes toooo short to worry about your 30th...theres nothing negative about it at all, your alive and kicking...enjoy it!! Have a ruddy good knees up and celebrate the fact your 30...not be miserable!!!
Set yourself a challenge for the year. I turned forty in May, decided I wanted to be in Africa on my birthday, and to run a marathon in the year. Had a brilliant time in Zambia and Botswana, went white water rafting, and on the horseback safari, went swimming on my horse. Also got chased by lions whilst on the horse, which almost shortened my life expectancy...
Got back from New York this weekend, having run the New York marathon, which is the most fabulous running race. Had an absolute ball running alongside the most enthusiastic crowd you can ever imagine.
Anyway, as you get older, you'll probably find as I do that you can't instantly remember how old you are. You can always do what I do, which is work in a hospital. Most of my patients are in their seventies and eighties, and it really changes your perspective on age.
Enjoy life, you only get one shot at it.

I think your thirties are probably some of the best times of your life. You're old enough to have left teenage angst behind you, sufficiently confident to know your way around, still have most of your life in front of you and are too young to be looking in the mirror and finding grey hairs.
Cheer up. The alternative option to being 30 is being dead. When you look at it in that light it seems a much better choice !
