However i got roped into a hot air ballon flight, I imagined I would be terrified all the way through, There was the odd bumpy moment but all in all it was a really nice experience. I wasnt exactly hanging over the side m,ind, but it felt safe.
Hi devilwoman, i know a couple of people that have done this. One had a bit of a bad experience though and ended up about breaking her ankle after a bad landing, however i think that is fairly uncommon and i dont want that to put you off. I would love to do it personlly, your 50th is very special so i'd say go for it! What would really make it extra special would be to have Cliff waiting on board with a couple of glasses of champagne and a bowl of fresh strawberries! Now there's a birthday you wouldnt forget in a hurry!
I went for a flight over Bath... it was absolutely amazing. The only bit I wasn't that keen on was the landing, not that it was bad but as we had to crouch down in the basket I couldn't see when we were going to hit the ground! Go for it and have a fantastic time. Congratulations for next year devilwoman

I had a balloon flight when I was forty, and it was fabulous! We took off from the grounds of Shugborough, and drifted over Cannock Chase. Because the flight was silent, we could drift low over herds of deer who would have scattered if they had known we were there, but simply ignored us and stood grazing, it was wonderful!
I was a bit aprehensive, but nothing bad can happen - even if the balloon punctures, which is virtually impossible, it will simply drift to earth in the way it will when it has its planned landing.
The pilot warned us to hold onto the ropes inside the basket and brace ourselves as the basket may tip over on landing. it did, but really gently, so everyone was fine.
Have a great time - and happy birthday for next year!
