mormons
24 Answers
Recently I had 2 mormons let themselves through my bolted (but not locked) 6 foot gates at the back of my house, and rap on my back door in the pitch black.
I have a fully functioning front door, and I have had a problem with intruders once before (which i reported to police) and I am a girl living on my own so I was a bit scared.
I answered the door only because I was expecting my boyfriend at that time but was quite scared to see two men I did not know, who had closed my gates tightly after them so no-one could see in.
I have been told I should report them to at least their church as they were trespassing and scared the wits out of me in my own home! Do you think I should report them or is this over reacting?
I am in the process of getting a lock fitted to my back gate to keep them out!

If they were what they say they were then ' yes' I would report them and a lock would be a good idea.
In the winter when the daylight hours are a lot shorter I will not open my door to anyone unless they've made prior arrangements. For those people to invite themselves through your back door is a bloody cheek and they should've known better.

chazza, yes you should report them to their church but also to the police. This is totally unacceptable behaviour and you are , yet again, being made to feel vulnerable in you own home.
You are not overreacting, these people came onto your property via the back entrance, no one would do that unless they were a friend and new it was acceptable.
My advice, go to the police as I am not sure what their church will do about it. You should feel as safe as possible in you own home.

Hello there Chazza, you poor thing, i'd be scared stiff too. I would go straight to the police, my best mate is a Mormon, and having met loads of her Mormon mates I can't see any of them doing this. If their aim was to recruit you to the church, this was the worst possible way to do it. It sounds really REALLY suspiscious to me. If you contact the police they will take it up with the church and then in turn they will deal with it internally. I am sure they would be shocked to know people are parading about scaring people (if they are really mormons) and if they arn't Mormons at all you have helped them too by letting them know.

Thing is, I usually find members of that particular faith to be very conscientious when making their calls. This doesn't sound like their usual modus operandi.
Yes, speak to the church. If they're genuine, then they'll be reminded of the correct approach. If not, then you will have alerted the church to a possible crime, and that's when you should speak to the police.

chazza, miss inquiry made a good point, were these people actually mormons? Didn't pick up on it initially but this is not their normal practice and maybe, unfortunately, there was something more sinister in their motives. dont mean to worry you but really taking this into consideration please go to the police, if only for your own peace of mind.
This sounds very suspicious to me, i myself do not know any mormons, neither do we get many knocking on door's round this area however i know that i would be scared stiff to open the door to two strange men.
I think that it is very strange indeed that they came through your back gates and not to your front door, is the back door more accessible to people? If this is not the case then i would definately report it to someone and i would suggest possibly the police.
How did you know they were infact mormons? i would go to the police to tell them, because it all sounds strange to me.
Were they friendly and just leave? because if thats the case then maybe it is just a case of a misunderstanding.
Definately get a big lock though!!

Missjef, we have a mormon church near where I live and i've had them come round before (to the front door) and these ones asked the same questions etc as the first ones, and were dressed the same etc. I do think they were genuine.
They weren't unfriendly but didn't stay long when i didnt invite them in out of the pouring rain!
And my front door is easily accessible, more so than the back I would say, because there are no latched gates and I live on a main road!
Bellringer, a dog is not practical, i work full time and live alone.

So, let's get this straight, your front door is easily accessible, but is in full view of a road. The back door is not easily accessible but two men claiming to be Morons (is this right?) got to your back door via a bolted garden gate that was six feet tall?
Surely I'm not the only one to think your house has been cased by burglars and not Morons?
Tell the police and check with the Moron Church asap! And review your security at the back.

I've only just seen your post chazza, but like everyone else am horrified to read what you have been through, especially as the front they use is squeaky clean, wholesome and unthreatening.
Yes, they must be reported as they could do the same to someone who might have heart problems with dire results. We are all told not to open doors to anyone during the hours of darkness, but it's an automatic reaction, isn't it? Not as scary as yours. but when I had 'odd' knockers-on-the-door at night my husband had a spyhole installed in the door. If this is feasable, might be another option.

Thanks cetti, i wouldnt usually have opened the door but I thought it was my boyfriend who was on his way round and I had left the back door locked!
Spyhole's not really feasible, its a plastic door with a frosted glass pane in it, but as it was dark and I had the light on inside, i couldnt see who they were until i had the door open!
