Hi guys and gals, Have you all seen the news today about our british marines not getting their bonus pay, my husband is in the army and my brother in law is in the marines and we think that it is disgusting that the marines are not entitled to this bonus pay, does this mean that they are worth any less ? What I'm asking is that if you think that the MOD are cherry picking who they give this money to then please lets inundate them with emails and express our disgust ( a bit of a email petition if you like). Lets get our boys and girls who put their lives on the line something that they all deserve !!!!!! If you want to take part then go to Google type in MOD then CONTACT US then post your disgust under the title SERVICE COMMUNITY ENQUIRY. Please also let me know what you think. Thank you all in advance.

My husband is also in the army, but not affected. Our boys are good enough when it comes to fighting their illegal wars but not good enough to be paid a decent wage for doing it. And before anyone says that 'they know what they are letting themselves in for when they join up' I wonder if they would do the job for the wages the soldiers receive?
I cant agree with you more !! As I said my brother in law is in the marines and he is affected, I just hope that who decided that the marines are not to be paid can sleep peacefully in their beds.
Please if you agree email the MOD and leave your comment and tell other people to do the same.

I'm not too sure about this, when I was in the forces, we never got a bonus whenever we were on active service over Christmas, but I do agree, it would be a great morale booster.
I do think, however, that our troops should be paid more, and treated a hell of a lot better by whichever goverment is in power, they do a wonderful job, and their pay should reflect this.

Hi lonnie thanks for your reply, I understand what you say that you never recived any type of bonus, but what gets me is why they are not reciving it after all they are part of the armed services on active duty they are good enough to be out there so they are good enough to get it, now to me them not reciving it especialy when they have been told they where getting it is discrimination which i'm sure is against the law.
Why have the Royal Marines been singled out not to receive this bonus?
Regarding this square Stocking they are to receive, I think this is pathetic, and all the Marines should send them back forthwith.
A passage from the MOD web site, regarding the square stocking.
' They pay homage to the 1914 gesture from the 17 year old Princess Mary, who introduced the idea of presenting a gift from the nation for everyone wearing the Kings uniform and serving overseas on Christmas Day '.
Princess Mary did not introduce the idea in 1914. My Grandfather was presented with a brass tin with goodies in it, when he was in South Africa fighting the Boar War. This tin was embossed with the figure of Queen Victoria. He was presented with the 1914 one also.

I agree its a bit of an insult to send them out these tins, that is said with NO disrespect to the charities that are sending them out.
From what I have read there is no reason other than an "administration error" well as far as Im concerned they said that they where to recive this bonus so they should be bound to pay up.

Hi .harleybobs, I'm a bit behind with whats happening, if they've been offered it, then yes, they should get it, even though I did see active service, it was nothing like what our soldiers are facing now, and yes, thy should get it, along with a decent pay rise into the bargain.
Overall, I think they've been let down on all official fronts, pay, equipment, support from our goverment etc.
