Bandwidth Problem
7 Answers
I have a slight problem, my modem is taking up 75% of my bandwidth, my computer needs 24% thus leaving 1% for my webcam. I was told that in order to correct this problem i would need a self powered USB hub. I have now got a self powered hub and the problem still exists. Can anyone make another suggestion. If i disconnect my modem, get the camera working then reconect my modem this works, but i was hoping for a more simpler solution rather than a mundane resolution like if it works why bother

Can you confirm where you are getting your figures from ?
How are your USB devices connected - to individual USB ports on the PC ? I know you have tried a powered hub which would have taken 1 USB port on the PC.
I am thinking that it may be worthwhile investing in a 4 port USB 2.0 PCI card - they are about 20.

BillyNomates, I have my modem connected to one usb port and mouse, pda sync and webcam connected by usb on the 4-port hub. Previously when my modem was connected and i tried to view my webcam a balloon appeared saying 'usb controller bandwidth exceeded click this to solve the problem, after clicking that is where it says the modem requires 75%, System needs 14% and system requires 10%. Your webcam requires 13%, please either disconnect something or move the device to another usb that is not being allocated. I hope that is of use, honestly i've been on thiss now for about a month before i decided to seek help elsewhere. JIm P
