How to keep myself safe
26 Answers
Someone was trying to get into my flat in the early hours of this morning, scared the hell out of me but the police came within 10 mins of me phoning them and managed to scare them off although didn't get them. Still shaky now!!!
What are the best ways of making my flat secure? The doors aren't exactly hard to break into and the locks aren't great either. xxx

also booby trap some doors
i have a back door that i never use as to get to it you have to pass the front door. there is a large wooden stepladder leaning on it so that if anyone opens it from the other side they get a step ladder in the face.

I'm going to get a BIG lock fitted tomorrow which will make me feel better :)
You've all given some great ideas though. I've got a personal alarm here somewhere so going to dig that out (got it when there was a stabbing outside my old house - it was even on crimewatch!).
Going to have a trip to B&Q tomorrow to see what they have and have got doorstops under my door (although it's very thin and am worried they could be kicked out) but gonna pile some noisy stuff up to it makes a right racket if anyone tries it tonight, have taped my letterbox up too.

if the attack alarm is one that you have to pull a pin out of, you could attach it to your front door, pin on the door, alaqrm on the frame - so that if it is opened it will pull the pin out and the alrm will sound.
you can also by door chain locks that have an alarm function too, so if the door is forced the chain pulls tight and sets it off
