Apologies if this is in the wrong section! My friend's four year old daughter is being christened next month - they are quite an arty and unconventional family. Thought about tree planting or star naming but it's not quite hitting the mark. Any ideas for a good present?

How about, a piece of art, painting or scupture (google art purchase online for loads of websites) a collectors edition of a children's book, try abebooks or alibris, an adopted animal at a local zoo, a if you are really close, a small gift and a book of "vouchers" for you to take the child to events like concerts, exhibitions, could be at milestone birthdays (12, 16, 18, 21, or decide your own), a season ticket to a local museum or culture centre where they run activities for children, an antique. We gave our godson a very plain silver dish with his monogram engraved on it. Hope this helps
Well nykkieberry, being a girl it rules out things like a Harley-Davidson, but does leave you open to providing her with a really good Morphy Richards. Other suggestions would be an oak teatowel, a set of matching waxed Nubian quonce trowels, a pair of flannelette budgies, three tickets, or maybe a lifetimes supply of string.
How about a Quaich, a shallow two handled drinking cup used to unite families. You can buy beautiful celtic ones from 'St Justin'. If just a small gift is required a really nice 'dreamcatcher' is a nice idea for young children, someone bought my son one when he was born. In my experience 4 year old girls are very keen on fairies, so try the 'Faerie Shop'

what about a sling for her doll! - http://www.brightspark.wahmall.co.uk/shop/ or maybe some kind of adopting an endangered animal type of thing.
A lot of great ideas already. I recently gave rosary beads in the child's birthstone and "Her First Bible" for my grand-niece's christening.
