Lottery ticket gift

hypothetical question.
If a friend or relative gave you a lotto ticket for Christmas, or a birthday, and lets say it won �2 million pounds. Would you go 50/50 or would you keep the winnings to yourself and say nothing?

I would never give someone a lottery ticket because I would be too jealous if they had won. However, I would share the wealth, I think 50/50 sounds fair enough.

Mrs johnlamberts grandparents give us �50 each for birthdays, christmas etc, now we have not won a significant amount of money so far, but if we did, I'd like to know what others would do

Definitely 50/50. It's only fair because without their gift you wouldn't have won.

Similar thing happened to my father, in the days when cars were rare and people used horses to get around, before the 1st World War. He was a little kid sitting beside the road outside a sweet shop when a travelling salesman asked him to hold the horse reins whilst he went into the shop. When he came out he gave dad a raffle ticket and then went on his way.

Well, what d'you know, the ticket won first prize of a brand new house in an up and coming suburb of Liverpool near where they lived at the time. Did my g'parents (or dad for that matter) share it? With a cheapskate salesman? Not on your nellie.

I feel really bad to say. It was a gift to me so I would give them some money from my winnings but it wouldn't be 50-50

i think its rude to expect to get 50% of it back!!

if you give someone a gift of a lottery ticket then that is the deal - you are giving it to them, you know that when you buy it, and thats the whole point - that they may win - you are giving them the gift of a chance to win!!
you can't then expect to take half of it away again!
you are not saying heres a piece of paper worth only a �1 and if it doesn't win, tough sh*t, but if it does then its half mine! do you only give a gift to see what you can get out of it yourself?

I would certainly buy them a nice big gift as a thankyou, but i wouldn't feel obliged to give them half!
nor would i expect half from them.

some people would do this deliberately knowing they were only spending a pound, and the chances of winning are pretty slim.

I am actually quick shocked that you all seem to think that you deserve half of their winnings!

ahhh joko I wouldnt expect half but I would probably give half.. Im unfortunately troubled by what people think
