Breast Biopsy Results
17 Answers
Hello, went to see the breast surgeon today, she was absolutely lovely, did a biopsy and I have to go and have an ultrasound scan (too young and too dense breasts for a mammogram to be of use).
After the consultation I was left to rest a bit after the biopsy and noticed the samples ready to go to the lab when someone came in to collect them, they were a bloody red colour. The clinic had finished so couldn't ask anyone but I've read that a bloody sample is not really a good sign, does anyone know or has anyone been through this who could shed any light?
Any help much appreciated x

Best of luck Jenna. I really hope they get back to you soon. Haven't been through this so can't really help much. Sorry. I honestly have never heard that if the biopsy is bloody it is a bad sign and I have worked with many breast cancer patients and oncologists. I had several biopsies taken when I had cancer, but was never told this was the case. If you are worried, call either your consultant or one of the many cancer charities, like BACUP. They may be able to elay your fears a bit. Good luck sweety! xx :o)
Thank you everyone, it really means a lot to have such support.
I've been doing some more reading and think I may have got a bit mixed up about what was taken. If it was a cyst it would have drawn fluid and think if that's bloody it's more cause for concern whereas if it's not a cyst and tissue is taken instead then i spose that might be blood like? Not sure if i've got that right though...need to ban myself from searching the net i think !!! :)

Hi Jenna,
I work in an Operating Theatre and can assure you that the biopsies taken would have been just as you described. They all are during the initial period when placed in formalin then settle later just as any other liquid does.
Some are often left overnight and do settle. The best analogy of it is to say it's similar to a snow globe. Leave it alone, it settles, give it a shake and hey presto!
Best of luck.
