Hello, went to see the breast surgeon today, she was absolutely lovely, did a biopsy and I have to go and have an ultrasound scan (too young and too dense breasts for a mammogram to be of use).

After the consultation I was left to rest a bit after the biopsy and noticed the samples ready to go to the lab when someone came in to collect them, they were a bloody red colour. The clinic had finished so couldn't ask anyone but I've read that a bloody sample is not really a good sign, does anyone know or has anyone been through this who could shed any light?

Any help much appreciated x

HI Jenna, how long do you have to wait until you get your results and have you got any of your family with you for moral support or close friends near by?

I hope and pray that you get the all clear, X
i hope all is well Jenna and you dont have to wait too long xx
Where did you read that Jenna? I would imagine that the sample would be bloody, but I haven't been able to find any info to back up my thoughts or what you have read..

I will ask my mum as she has had a biopsy recently. Hopefully someone else can answer your Q before I get an answer from her :o)

Hope you are ok hun ~ rest up and I am keeping everything crossed for you hun xxxx
Hi Jenna, I had a biopsy a couple of weeks before Christmas and mine were a bit bloody....I got the all-clear so I should think it will be ok hun.

I hope you got my email!!

Take care of yourself and I'll be thinking of you,

Loads of love

Me !! xxxxx
Phew..thank goodness for wonderous!

To be honest what I did read was that the biopsy involved taking tissue..therefore I kind of figured that a sample would be a bit bloody?

Good luck & best wishes, Jenna :o) xx
Best of luck Jenna. I really hope they get back to you soon. Haven't been through this so can't really help much. Sorry. I honestly have never heard that if the biopsy is bloody it is a bad sign and I have worked with many breast cancer patients and oncologists. I had several biopsies taken when I had cancer, but was never told this was the case. If you are worried, call either your consultant or one of the many cancer charities, like BACUP. They may be able to elay your fears a bit. Good luck sweety! xx :o)

Thank you everyone, it really means a lot to have such support.

I've been doing some more reading and think I may have got a bit mixed up about what was taken. If it was a cyst it would have drawn fluid and think if that's bloody it's more cause for concern whereas if it's not a cyst and tissue is taken instead then i spose that might be blood like? Not sure if i've got that right though...need to ban myself from searching the net i think !!! :)

This was the site I found...

WW thank for your e.mail hon, just got it xxx
Hi Jenna,
I work in an Operating Theatre and can assure you that the biopsies taken would have been just as you described. They all are during the initial period when placed in formalin then settle later just as any other liquid does.

Some are often left overnight and do settle. The best analogy of it is to say it's similar to a snow globe. Leave it alone, it settles, give it a shake and hey presto!

Best of luck.

Thank you Philtaz, that's good to know :)

It was like blood smeared over a number of slides.

The surgeon also asked me if I'd ever considered having a breast reduction which is something I have considered in the past. She said I should consider it and speak to my GP.

Jenna, i would try to forget about it somehow until u get the results, otherwise you will be feeling cr@p till u do. My dad had cancer op 2 years ago and I could barely concentrate at work from the time he went in to hospital till he had the op...which was 3 months...and still worry 2 years later.

Easier said I know Jenna, please try not to worry about the blood. As the other's say,it's normal with a biopsy. Good luck with your results. Daisy.
hi jenna, i work in a breast clinic at our local hospital and can assure you the samples taken are often bloody so please don't worry, let us know how you get on xxx
