In light of the Big Brother and Jade Thing I wonder Would it now or was it indeed unlawfull or racist to call an Irish Person PADDY,a Welsh Person TAFFY, a Scottish Person Jock, or Newcastle person a GEORDIE, or the whites HONKY or Londoners LONDONERS.or whatever

its ok to call an Australian an aussie, a person from Sweden a swede but why is it not ok to call someone from Pakistan a p*ki!!!! Confused, so am I!

not confusing really - in american the term **** is used quite widely BUT and this is the important bit it is used and never has been used as a term of insult in the states.
whereas here in the UK **** was used widely in the 80's (and prob before) by the likes of the national front and other racist organisations / groups to insult and intimidate the pakistani population - thus quite rightly it became an unacceptable word.

words in themselves are not racist rather the reason for using them historically or presently that dictates whether they are or not... so in answer to your question - it is unlikely that the above examples are racist as they have not been widely used to insult or subject people to verbal attacks or slurs

I think that the word Pakistani is seen as correct but p*ki is not - don't ask me why!

A fyear or two ago, a TV documentary maker took two men- one with whitish skin, and the other with brownish skin- then changed their pigmentation each to the other's. They each had to live for a week in the "wrong" coloured skin, to experience how differently each was treated.

Pray consider what your life would be like in a different skin (or religion, for that matter) then realise that you should treat all alike. Abuse is from ignorance; who - apart from J*d* G**dy - wants to be ignorant?

More than half of the problem is people's general geographical ignorance. I have a friend who is Indian, and he regularly gets called a P*k* although he actually has never even been to Pakistan. It makes my blood boil!
It's ridiculous ~ that's like calling anyone from the Far East a Chinese person. We don't call every white person a Brit or a Yank, and we don't call every black person an African.
