Was Einstein really the first person to invent this riddle? In case you don't know it is the one where there are 5 houses in 5 different colours. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet.No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same beverage. You are then given a certain number of facts.Einstein said that 98% of the world could not solve it.

No idea is Einstein was the first but sounds like a bog standard logic problem. You can buy a monthly magazine full of the things in WH Smiths and the like. They are hard but once you get the formula (there is a special grid) then they can be worked out.

No - Einstein is alleged to have written the riddle late in the 19th century or early 20th century - but the brand name of the cigar mentioned 'Blue Master' wasn't introduced until 1937. To be honest I don't think it is the type of problem that would have interested him anyway. He was more concerned with paradoxes intended to discredit quantum theory ( ER Paradox ).
well even Einstein must have had 'fun' times instead of all that paradox solving.......
I had this on an email which stated it was einstein's theory (although it would, wouldn't it?) Interesting about the Blue Master anthomson. I was qute chuffed coz apparently I solved it so I'm part of 2% :)

I'm reasonably old/young and I read that if you had 1 GCE(now you know how old), you were in the top 5% of the population.Whether that it true or not I don't know.

By the way Lennon and no cheating how long did it take you?
In all honesty, it actually took me about an hour. But its not that hard to solve if you know how to work the puzzle. I did puzzle books when I was a kid and there was a particular puzzle that I used to love that was set out in a specific table with statements for you to work out. So I drew up my own table and added in the info with ticks and crosses. Hard to explain, but if I could show you this table, then you would know what I mean when I say you can work it out quick, so I promise I'm being honest and I'm not that clever either! :)
