Yah, a great fan of the Damned and their music may have been slagged off by Julie Burchill at the time of the punx (not radical enuf for her) ,but it endures now. I like their cover of Eloise too...I know they play only once in a blue moon now but I try to go, it's hilarious to see kids who aren't even allowed to get in (about 14) who have Damned pix on their tiny leather jackets!

I can't really claim to be of the original punks cos they really went to town with the mohicans, crazy colour etc, I only used to wear similar clothes to Hot Gossip. I got fed up of the pogoing and moshing at the front of gigs and I used to look up to more to Debbie Harry and Kate Bush as older female icons...for a similar reason I like the melodic elements of the Damned (although they used to have plenty of gobbing etc, poor pets). plus the Damned always seem to have a genuine love of their stage act and their audience...nothing cynical or manipulative there at all. There are so many crucial songs out there that I can't think of a sensible answer to wild-bill's Q apart from 'I want you' by Bob Dylan. Crisis lyrics make me maudlin, not good at this time of the eve!
