Growing out piercings

Has anyone ever had or seen a piercing that has grown out? I've had my belly button pierced since March now and I cant help thinking that has moved closer and closer to the surface of the skin! It still looks good, but hey I'm a bit of a worrier! Does anyone know if there's anything you can do to stop this happening? Thanks!

I had my ear pierced when I was 12 - I'm 29 now and it is still there even though I haven't worn anything in it since it was done! - not sure about tummy peircings tho....

oh yes. my belly button bar grew out when i was pregnant. you can get rubber "keepers" but i didn't know about them then. I just kept a longer bar in but it got closer to the surface and a week before i had my eldest it had grown out. If it does you can get it pierced again. I did but took it out when i got pregnant with my 2nd.

OK so let me see if I have this right. You get your umbilicus pierced then become pregnant. Hmm. try it again and sure enough get pregnant again. I'm not going to try that piercing thing then!

i had my eyebrow pierced last year, had the same problem that it looked liked it was gonna grow through. I found that putting a 'banana bar' (curved bar as opposed to a straight one) did the trick. Just make sure you use a curved bar and everything should b ok!

I have many a piercing and yes they do grow out as it is a 'foreign body'. It all depends on the piercing as to wether you can prevent the growing out. I have my eyebrow pierced and it was done with a straight bar so after 3 yrs it has begun to push thru. Due to the bone pushing against it. But I now know that if I had, had it done with a curved bar then then it would have lasted.
