also make sure you clean it properly - you probably wont be able to eat properly for at least a few days, but anything you have that isn't water just make sure to give your mouth a rinse with warm salt water - and also make sure to do that twice on top of that. - or maybe invest in some non alcoholic mouthwash, just make sure it's not super strong mint.
As long as you go somewhere reputable, there shouldnt be a problem, and as long as you look after it properly!
hope this is of some help to you, emily xx

Hi Leah, Wouldn't recommend it. Not only is it impossible for them to numb it; ie spear goes straight through then the bar is attached, pulled back through then removed and ball added; but if you try to eat anything the same day it's impossible. I stupidly got mine done then tried to eat a pot noodle which ended up tied in knots, causing extreme pain, bleeding and biting down on the piece of metal. I also spoke with a lisp for the whoel 6 hours it was in my mouth. The dentist fees would have been enormous had I kept it in.
Hello Princess,
Well as long as you're of legal age and your folks won't kill you it's largely up to you m'dear.
I went with (actually was emotionally blackmailed) in to going with my baby sister to get her tongue pierced. It's a fairly messy and painful procedure in my opinion. The tongue is pierced with a long stick like thing and from what I saw (peeking out through my fingers) it loooked like he did the top and then the bottom. The stuff that numbs your mouth means that you dribble a fair bit as this is being done.
Little sister then couldn't eat much for two weeks. They advise soups and what have you. Another thing that makes it heal quickly is copious amounts of ice lollies. She had all those nasty ice pole things.... she was on a bout ten a day I think and her tounge was a permenant blue shade for a while there.
You need lots of mouth wash too but I can't remember why.
Anyway, she still has it now and really likes it, it did not get infected and she delights in sticking it out at people.
My cousin had one when she was about 18 but she let hers heal over and again no ill effects.
So it's largely up to you. I'm sure someone else on here can explain more about the actual piercing and the mouth wash but I hope that's been of some help.
(By the way, if you have a sister, don't emotionally blackmail her in to going, she will hold it against you, she may go a funny shade of green and it is very hard not to punch the person who is stickiing a needle and causing pain to a loved one).

I have mine pierced and have had zero problems. I have actually had it done twice, I had to have it taken out for an op and it healed over. Now 10 years ago, the first time I had it done, It didnt hurt but the swelling after was monsterous, the second time I had it done with the accupierce method, no swelling or bleeding and no problems eating etc.
There are always risks with piercing but if its what you want it isnt permanent. Go for it!!
