I was watching the mind and memory program last night on BBC1 9pm - forget what it was called (ha ha ha) - and it said that studies show that taking large quantities of cod liver oil/fish oil tablets daily, improve concentration and effective studying to a remarkable degree - it's the omega 3 in the tablets. My question is that they said the trials were based on children taking daily doses of six tablets over a period of a few weeks and i am wondering if there are any effects one should consider regarding a daily diet of 6 cod liver oil tablets? side effects? health concerns?
I think the product they were using was called Eye Q. It has highly concentrated forms of fish oils and is not the same as taking cod liver oil. The differences are a bit complicated to type here but go to: www.equazen.com the Q&A section there explains everything.
When I take cod liver oil capsules after a few days I have to stop as it affects my hair making it greasy. I certainly wouldn't like to take six a day, one is enough.
I know its a long shot with kids but why not try to get them to eat oily fish regularly - kippers, John West "Skippers" (in tomato sauce, my favourite) etc. However, my own opinion is that the tablets would cause no harm but are more expensive than the real thing.
Its a good policy to encourage eating fish, especially oily fish as you mention, but a cod liver oil tablet once a morning is much easier to swallow (pardon the pun) than a daily dose of fish (and less tedious i would imagine!)
yeah its eye q. my two little brothers take them, they are supposed to help behavior problems too. although to many tablets is bad for u. i get worried
I've just taken a high strengh fish oil tablet for a couple of weeks but I think it was making me paraniod. I stopped taking it and feel a whole lot better. Did help with my joints though.
