stopping smoking

I've not had cigarette since 8am on Tuesday morning after being on Zyban for a few weeks.
I am, however, feeling totally demented and am desperate for a cigarette. Can i have just one or is that crazy. Will it just send me back to the beginning again or is a slip up allowed. I haven't really tried to stop before.

What is better, having a 3 inch stick that may possibly give you a few moments relaxation

A lifetime without fear of premature heart disease, lung cancer, brown teeth, stinky breath, brown tarry muck filling your tubes and looking like a cheap h00ker with a disgusting cigarette hanging out of a wrinkled mouth.
You do not need Zyban, you need a bit of self respect and pride that the miracle of life was given to you (whether science or God).
Go to a childrens hospital and see little cherubs with happy faces who have a few months to live due to cancer, weak hearts, AIDS etc etc etc. Then think you were given a life to live but are ruining it all for the sake of some disgusting habit.

A practical suggestion. Get some nicotine chewing gum if you haven't already. You have stopped smoking because you want to. The gum will help.
It is possible to have just the occasional smoke, but obviously dangerous. I tried it, but couldn't live with the guilt in the morning. Good Luck anyway, stick with it !!
Whatever you do, do not use gum. You are trying to kick the habit of getting nicotine in your bloodstream. Yes, gum is slightly more healthy but is ultimately defeatist. Tar in the cigarettes, although destructive, is not addictive. Nicotine is the addiction, so why chew it?

Hi claremaree, well done for getting this far, I've never been a smoker so don't pretend to know how you feel but think anyone trying to give some kind of addiction deserves praise. A work colleague gave up four years ago by having one of those pretend cigarettes to hold and put in his mouth when he felt weak. He has never looked back. Good Luck

If you are still suffering from withdrawal pangs, then try these options (and take no notice of some off the silly nonsense above given out by folk who have never had to deal with an addiction themselves. It is obvious from the replies who has had to deal with this sort of situation - the rest just sneer.
Go out for a walk
Drink some chilled or iced water
Distract yourself by doing something totally different (anything from brushing your teeth to doing the washing up)
Remind yourself that you have got through 5 days now, in another few days or so all that nasty nicotine will be out of your system and you'll be on the road to recovery
Give yourself a bit pat on the back for getting so far !! Well done !
