Hypnotherapy

Have posted this already on Health and Fitness b ut to no avail so Im trying you lot!!
Have any ABers had any experience of hypnotherapy. Am not talking about live showbiz type shows (although would still like to hear) but more serious private consultations to, say, quit smoking. Am not sure whether I would go for it or not. What if it messed with your mind permanently? Although it does seem a good way of dealing with certain problems. I dont understand how it works. Does anyone out there know? Is there any difference between hypnotherapy and hypnosis?

The hypnotherapist talked to me until I was very, very relaxed but knew all that was going on. She talked about my smoking, my reasons for quitting etc and at one point I cried but was still able to use the tissue she gave me. I had two sessions and gave up really after the first but had a couple of cigarettes in that week. After the second I gave up completely. The funny thing was that I thought I smoked with alcohol but after stopping smoking I couldn't be bothered to drink either. However, I chose to start smoking again some months later - I made myself - don't ask me why. So it can certainly work if you want it to and I would recommend it.
