Smoking Ban

When the smoking ban is in force will it stop the huddle of people outside the entrance to buildings.

Sometimes when you walk out and don't realise you get an unexpected lungfull. Also if your job involves you being near an exit you can't avoid it. As a part time job I sometimes drive a bus and have to wait near a large exit for periods, and the smoke drifts into the bus.

I hope it does stop it. I am a totally unsympathetic non smoker who can't wait.

I've only got to wait until April 2nd woo hoo my pub is going to be brilliant without the cigar smokers taking over. Every Sunday all the horse racing people come in owner, trainers etc and you can't see through the cigar smoke.
Cigars kind of smell like farts too which is really gross!!

I hope pubs etc sort out somewhere for people and they don't all hang around the doorways. Friends of mind went to Dublin a few weeks ago they said brilliant place fab time but you have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get in anywhere - defeats the object a bit for us non smokers really.

Unfortunately very little can be done about the huddles outside. It's down to the individual establishments to take action as they see fit. For example the block where I work has banned smoking out front and they have been allocated a "Bus shelter" type place round the back . This is not true of everywhere. Pubs and clubs will inevitably have the smelly oiks outside. I am a member of a private club and we are not allowing smoking out front but there are many that will. Then there is the issue of what rights do the aforementioned establishements have to control outside? how far must a smoker be away from the building for it to become "none of there business"? Stll panic at least you'll be able to go inside and have a pint without being gassed! Roll on July!

Oh dear,
What a shame, there is still the possibility that you'll get glassed not gassed now that the stinking excuses for human beings that smoke are out of the picture come the ban in July.
Personally I can't wait for our nanny state to ban drinking in public then I won't have to step in pools of vomit or step over fat birds rolling round out of thier skulls on the pavement outside the pubs in town!

I`ve asked my husband where he is going to smoke. I have given up and told him as he cant smoke in the work place and as a housewife this is my place of work. His answer is not printable.lol

Much as I am enjoyig the smoking ban, I do still miss being able to sit at the bar and smoke to my hearts content.... those were the days. You should expect to have to elbow your way out of pubs when it's enforced and take a deep breath! And remember, we are holding up the NHS so please don't gripe when we're outside, what more do you want????

Well my question was to do with those of us whose place of work puts them by exits. We will still be forced to passively smoke, unless it is banned there.

Luckily for me that is only a part time job so I don't suffer it often.

What about the people whose windows are by an exit. They suffer because of smoke drifting in now. No doubt some ABusers experience this, do you?

Whilst visiting carakeel in the local hospital, I was confused to see a group of nurses etc stood on the grass verge out site the Hospital grounds, whilst walking into the Hospital I noticed a sign stating that smoking is now banned on all Hospital grounds!! They now had to walk about 200 mtrs for a fag in the rain, I bet a few of them will now consider giving up!! LOL

I am a 70 y old non-smoker,did not pass my call-up health examination weak chest! I have no lung problems whatever [even I have a wife who smokes] I grew up in an age when everyone appeared to smoke,grand parents,parents,friends and when you got on the top deck of buses a thick fog of smoke enveloped you,what I am trying to get at is how is it that some people get emphysema or lung cancer is it the make-up of your genes or what?
What about the explosion of asthma is it because of diesel fumes, think about it children are pushed around in prams at exhaust height diesel and green petrol give off so many carcinogenics.

as far as i understand this new law, it is banning in a public place or work place with exclusions for designated areas. I am not sure if thias will extend to people gathering in the enmtrances to workp-laces. i am always amazed how many nurses you see clustered outside the hospitals in the rain smoking, or has that stopped now?

We have to go round the back of a building to a bus shelter type thing; the stupidity of it though is that the shelter isn't allowed to provide 100% shelter, the walls from the waist down had to be removed when the ban was implemented! Ridiculous considering it's a designated smoking area!

The ban has been in place for nearly 11 months in Scotland without any problems. However, the first few times you visit a smoke free pub all you will be able to smell is the toilets. Not nice.
