Spurslady...checked out those links and Ginger Busch nearly made me wet my pants!
Our family name is White. Not funny but I found it to be a bit unfortunate when pregnant and trying to think of names for baby White. Lots of girls names were instantly discarded as unsuitable for obvious reasons. For example, Rosie, Daisy, Poppy, Ruby, Crystal... All of which risked ridicule. I liked Matthew for a boy and my other half said no child of his would be known as Matt White especially when it's grandad was a painter and decorator! Niall was on my list too but was my partner said no chance because of the White Nile river.
At a big family dinner we got so fed up with other people going on about names that we announced that if the baby was a girl it was to be called Isla. We couldn't believe that everyone thought it was a lovely name and no-one twigged until we pointed it out!
In case you are curious, we did indeed have a girl and named her Lorna thinking it was pretty safe. However, we moved house to an end cottage. She is now known as Lorna on the corner and she hates it!.
