I went into a shop to buy a couple of bits which came to 3. I handed the cashier a 10 note, and she gave me 17 in change!! She must have thought I had handed her a 20, or else she was just miles away. As I was watching my son at the same time I didn't twig till I got back to my car. So.... I just kept the money and went home. Would you have done the same or would you have gone all the way back to the shop and given it back??

No... buy your son something nice with it!
I have done in the past it was an instant response. But most of the time now I say nothing and walk out with a red blushing face.

I don't feel so guilty now :)

If I saw money on the floor I would have definitely handed it in though.
Great innit lol

The standard of basic maths teaching eh? ;-)
If you had been the cashier and she the customer, would she have given you the money back?

Chances are not, so don't worry about it.
No....I would take it back...
It depends how skint I was at the time.If i was in an exceptionally good mood i would have gone back.if it was a big store like Woolworths, nah!
Sorry, PinkFizz. There's no dilemma here for me.I would've taken it back. The owner may even deduct the shortfall out of her wages when cashing up.
my gran was shopping in a busy department store over xmas. the stuff she bought came to 60.10 for handyness she gave the cashier 100.10 (to get 40 back).

later that day we were getting lunch and she took out her purse to give me the money for it. she took out the receipt from the store with the change in it and there was 94 in it.

the cashier had type in 6.10 instead of 60.10 without noticing!

my gran went to m&s and bought some thermo undies for herself!

then next day she went to confession lol
haha...The same happened to my sister in law. She bought a top for 45 and they typed in .45....she didn't comfess...
I don't really understand why you say if you found money on the floor you would hand it in but when a cashier gives you too much change, you keep it. To me it would seem more fair to keep any cash you just find lying on the floor (unless you saw who dropped it) and hand back the extra change to the cashier. Either way, I can't really preach. A while back I used the self service check out at tesco and noticed that in the area under the scanner where the notes are returned to you, there was a fiver sitting in there so I just picked it up with the rest of my change. There was nobody there before me so my guilty conience didn't hang around for long.
I would definitely return it. Taking something that doesn't belong to you is stealing.

Last week I left the store with my shopping and realised that I hadn't paid for a bottle of nail varnish that was in my cart. I loaded my bags into my car and went all the way back in and waited in line for 5 mins to pay for the nail varnish.
As a kid we had fun superglueing coins to the path and watching from a distance as people 'nonchalantly' tried to pick them up... ;o)
Your place in heaven is assured miss blondie...

I don't think I would all it stealing when I was handed it!! Blimey!
I wouldn't have done in the past- however I would do now. That however is only because I work on a till in a supermarket and if my till is down my manager wants to know why!

I honestly couldn't live with myself if I thought that another girl was getting some flak from her boss for a genuine mistake on her part.
Hi Pinky... buy a bottle of wine with your ill gotten gains... I'll come round and help you drink it whilst we discuss the 'morality' of your actions lol...

I'll wear my Pilots cap too! ;o)
Next time you hand over 20 and get chage from 10 you will not go back and complain. Think about it.
It's dishonest not to return the money, as you know that you were given too much.

The shop assistant made a mistake and most likely had to reimburse the missing money .... how would you feel if the position had been reversed?
