Cod liver oil and dogs

My vet told me to give my dogs cod liver oil but not ure it matters which one. Would the ordinary ones we take be the same as ones made for dogs.? Also how much should they have. tablets or liquid. many thanks

I used to give it to my old dog for her joints. I just used to buy a bottle of it in the chemist or supermarket and mix a spoonfull of it in with her food.

my friend gives her alsatian/rottweiler X C.L.O for her joints and coat, with her being such a big dog.
She buys the standard "human" stuff, and it seems to be very beneficial for her.

I give my dogs a cod liver oil capsule 3 times a week, I was advised not to give it every day, and yes they get the same capsules I take.

I give our dogs a seven seas cod liver oil capsule a couple of times a week. I have seen a marked difference in the older dog's mobility, and they have glossier coats and seem generally healthier for it.

Brenda, if it is for your rough collies coats - I have found evening primose oil to be the best, even more so if you have had them speyed - one a day, and yes the 'human' ones - reasonably cheap, think I paid just over a �1 a tub with 90 in for my last lot from Morrisons - and Holland Barratt sometimes have good offers on.

Some years ago when I got my first GSD, a police dog handler who ran the training classes told me he gave his dog a little Olive Oil once a week. Since then I,ve given it to all my dogs and they have always had great looking coats

I work in an animal feeds shop (supplies horse owners, farms etc) and we sell cod liver oil which is made by seven seas and is exactly the same as that sold for human consumption, but is much cheaper as it is just in a big plastic bottle!

I use ordinary vegetable oil a couple of times a week, or sometimes just a spoonful of margerine. Pet shops often sell cod liver oil capsules, and it is all basically the same stuff.
