Animal Testing!

As a society we have developed through using animal testing as a way of finding preventions, cures and successful drug treatments. Why is it then that when we are trying to discover a cure for cancer, bird flu and Alzheimer's etc we are faced with people who show no support for these breakthroughs and carry out terrorists acts aimed at the people trying to find miracle cures. A prime example has to be the people who dug up the grave of an elderly woman merely for the fact she was the Grandmother of an individual who happened to own an animal testing centre.

When these individuals are seriously ill or urgently in need of treatment, will they still be on such moral high grounds if the hospital happens to use drugs which have been tested on animals? What gives these people the right to terrorise animal testing laboratories where vital drugs are being developed?

I dont think they really care about animal testing at all, they use it as an excuse for terrorist behaviour. There are many people who are against animal testing and they demonstrate peacefully. I dont like to dwell on thoughts about animal tesing, in my opinion it is a necessary evil however, I have my doubts about how well the conditions and practices are monitored.

Is that is supposed to be an AB impartial question to encourage debate? Sounds like something out The Sun's letter page. Misinformed and inflamatory. Your question is disgusting. Put yourself forward for electrodes in your brain if you feel so strongly about these wonderful laboratories. Shame on you.
Do the tests on the Animal Rights people instead of the animals.....

I love monkeys and would hate to see a monkey in pain...they are almost human....just like me.....

It reminds me of that joke about the rabbit that escapes from the testing lab only to have to break in after only a few hours of freedom because he was dying on a fag!

In case anybody hasn't realised, humans can sign up to be "guinea pigs" for medical research (remember the guys whose brains nearly exploded last year?) but humans are a more valuable resource than animals so the animals get to test things first to make sure they're safe for us. I disagree with using animals for testing cosmetics though but for medical purposes I think it's fine.
Personally I feel that not enough research is being made into alternative methods to test products.

Whilst i regrettably can't deny that a very large percentage of tests carried out on animals have proved beneficial and or safe to humans, we only need to check history to see this isn't a foolproof method- anyone remember Phalidomide? And even the example used above ^^ where human have voluntarily tested products, you can bet your last pound these were tested 1st on animals and deemed safe 1st.

I know... why don't they do their testing on all those hounds who have cruelly hunted and slaughtered all those innocent foxes. That'll learn 'em!
I know, why don`t they do their testing on all the scummy chavs and hoodies loitering about our streets
Maybe then Elvis instead of all the compulsary service you have to do in Greece for example we have compulsary chav testing! I think thats a great idea!

The fact is that the logic (and I use that term very loosely) behind animal rights is mad! We can put an animal down if they are slightly in pain but if a human is terminaly ill and in severe pain they have to live through it and battle their way through the courts to be allowed to end their painful and prolonged life ...on the other hand we'll test products on animals and let them suffer and thats ok!...does any of that make sense? Didn't think so. I dont agree with testing on animals for cosmetic purposes but for medical purposes definitely. If scientist can find a cure to cancer and in the process a few dogs, a rat and a cat die surely they didn't die in vein and their lives were of more value than most of the humans that walk this god dam planet!

Great idea Elvis!

Chavs, anyone with ASBO's against them and young re-offenders. Better still, testing could be carried out on those animals in prison.

I can never understand why they don't test on the incurables. What have they got to lose and you never know it may cure them!
I could think of quite a few very bad human beings in our prisons who could be tested upon and give something back to society!!!!!!!!!!!
kwicky they do test on the incurables as you so sweetly put it lol..... and some die for their support in looking for that cure.

DJerba that makes perfect sense :-) why say an animal musn't suffer and then do the exact opposite?

But the 'suffer little children' must go on. Probably the God argument lol......
Beryllium do you know what lol stands for. ie Laughs out loud! Not a lauging matter is it? They may test on a few incurables but obviously not enough otherwise this question would not arise.
kwicky!!! I'm one of your incurables. Is it ok for me to LOL now?
I reluctantly think that some manner of testing on animals may be necessary but my heart aches when I think of primates being used because they are so close to humans and haven't been able to give their consent.
I have a much better idea. Why not use the inmates of prisons instead for new drug testing?
Many of them will not voluntarily repay their debt to society in any other way so they might as well do something useful while they're in there. Or would that suggestion upset the Human Rights brigade?
Personally I think that anybody who has committed murder, rape, grevious bodily harm or terrorism has forfeited their right to Human Rights until they've paid the full penalty that the law prescribes.
why cant the science pple do a test that tests if the test is goin to hurt?
