Gym Prices.
16 Answers
Hello!
I was wondering if any of you lovely people could help me out please? I'm looking to start going to the gym and have been phoning around trying to get some prices. Do any of you happen to be members of Fitness First? I can't seem to get a straight answer out of them and I really am just looking for a ball park figure.
Failing that, does anyone else go to a gym (chain) that they would recommend as good for the money?
Many thanks in advacne, c~s.

I am a member of fitness first and for an off peak membership I pay 26 a month. You are better off going into your local f/f rather than phoning, and they will sort you out with a walkround then if you are interested will book an induction.
My local f/f in Poole is great as it has a large gym downstairs and if you want a bit more peace and quiet, a smaller gym upstairs. It also has a sauna, steam room, sanarium and stand up sunbeds.
I would highly reccomend this gym for anyone who tends to lose enthusiasm after a couple of weeks. I have been a member now for 3 months now and a love it.

Thanks, jababe. I was put through to my local Fitness First and the lady arranged for me to pop in tomorrow. I'm a bit worried that I'll get pushed into something, lol! I don't really have a clue about these things work. Are the membership prices set or can they do you 'discounts' at all? Thanks again.
I used to belong to my local David Lloyd which was silly money to join and belong to and I wouldnt recommend that to anyone really. Value for money depends on how much you will use the facilities, what facilities they offer and whether you will be able to use them all within your membership at any time.
I now belong to my local leisure centre gym which is run by Banana something or other. I pay 56 a month for me and the wife to use the gym at anytime and pool (with sauna/jacuzzi) at restricted times. The downside is that at peak times it can get packed meaning you queue for things and that the adult swim times are a bit inconvenient and you do get local oiks occasionally. The upside is the price, the range of facilities, the service and friendly helpful staff, and the ability for my wife to join pilates, yoga, or any other of those classes for a reduced cost.
You should start by looking at the location and the facilities and what you would use and how often and see how much that equates to per visit. If you spend 60 per month and go there 3 times a week, that is 5 per visit. And if you are tied in to a 12 month contract and get bored and you end up going once a week thats 15 a visit! Then you will see if you are getting value for money.

When you go they will ask you what days you will be using the gym and what time and will sort out the best deal for you. If its not for you then just tell them. If it is then they tell you that you can start using the facilities straight away and will sort out your induction. Good luck for tomorrow.
Thanks, Octavius, I hadn't thought of it that way. I'm hoping to go at least three times per week for something like 40 a month, so that doesn't seem too bad. All the classes, etc. are included, so that's good. I think they also let you have a weeks free trial, so I'll try that first to see if I 'fit in', lol!
Thanks for your advice, jababe. I've talked my friend into maybe joining too if the price is right. I don't know if they'll maybe give me a discount on my joining fee for introducing a friend as well? Worth a try I suppose! Haha!
Thanks again everyone for your answers, c~s :-)
