The Pope has announced that remarried Catholics should live like 'brother and sister' if they haven't got an annulment first. The official line from the Vatican is that remarried Catholics should "live their relationship in fidelity to the demands of God's law, as friends, as brother and sister." The Catholic Church does not recognize civil divorce as a real divorce. Has anyone had experience of this sort of situation? Do you see it as a reasonable expectation in today's society?

not at all oct.
just reading the question it struck me strange that he tells remarried catholics to live like brother and sister.
im not sure if that would involve sexual relations or not.
but as he appears to condone priests sleeping with young children i find it a double standard if thats the case.
also the question is an awkward one.
because surely a devout catholic wouldnt get divorced or remarried .
so therefore yuore asking for an answer you already have.
if you divorce as a catholic and remarry then yuo dont strictly follow the guidelines of the church do you?
hope you didnt take it personally but it appeared a swipe at me.
and as is customary,i swiped back
My posts werent aimed at anyone specifically leg end, well except the one about spelling. If you feel you are being attacked, then the least I would expect is defence or a counter-attack!

Strangely enough I agree with you on the pointlessness of the original Q. If you look at my very first post on page 1 you will see exactly that.
sorry i raed as fast as i post lol.
hence all the names i use.
not to be malicious .
just cos i didnt realise you can get banned fro overposting lol.

as i said .
a devout catholic cant divorce.
and if they divorce then theyre not devout.
as marraige appears to be on the decline its pointless anyway lol
Well they can, but they need an anullment to get remarried.

Only affects a small minority of people and if a priest refuses to accept or rejects someone on this basis then it is the loss of the Catholic Church isnt it?

So as a true catholic, if you wanted to divorce you can (for legal reasons I mentioned) and then you are required to get an annulment before you can remarry in a Catholic Church, or technically be accepted in the Catholic Church. The point about living as brother and sister seems merely an attempt by AB Asks to fuel the fire of indoctrination.

How many people in the UK will really feel any hardship from the impact of this doctrine? Not many. On Answerbank? Even less!
they dont call it answerbonk for nothing lol
Im with -zorro- I would have the Catholic Church disbanded and give their extensive wealth to the victims of child abuse or the Salvation Army where it can be used to help people!! I think the Catholic Church is an absolute disgrace!!! of which I would be ashamed to belong.

I am atheist by the way!!
bring back crucifiction i say
I agree legend!! lets crucify all the catholic priests that abuse children, that should put an end to the catholic church in itself!!
I'm with you Octavius. As I stated, it doesn't affect me whether the Pope tells me I should wear red pants on a Monday, that eating ice-cream will send me to hell, or anything else that he (probably hasn't) said.
I want to remain absolutely consistent on this with EVERY religion, and not just a division of Christianity, that I'm happy for them to preach whatever they like, and I'm happy for people to believe whatever they like as long as it is seperated from the state and doesn't interfere with my personal and social freedoms.
Do I agree with what he has said? No. Will I defend his right to say it? Yes.

nail them to the crosses and let them burn in hell
if it exists

barstewards
Correct me if im wrong, but did i see a doc. a few years back condemin the catholic church for farmin out a load of orphans to oz after thesecond world war too, because they were a bit of a burden and nobody quite knew what t do with them.Anybody else remember watchin that ?
I love the pope, and dont think people should divorce, you choose to marry a person you should stay with them no matter what. I have been married for 35 years and would not have shamed my self or family by divorce.
I thought the Pope died a few years back anyway 8oP is Derek Acorrah up to his old tricks again?
