Toni + Guy.

I've been using these for roughly 3 years, various stylist's. Costly but alway's a good cut +blow dry. One of my neighbour's who's hair always looks great told me where she goes to get her hair done. My hair was due for the usual so, last friday I had my hair done at "A Cut Above" as recommended by my neighbour and I could'nt get over how good a job the stylist made! He gave me a completely different style, taking the time to actually discuss which style suited my face. The cost? 22.50 and a cuppa and biccie. There's no way Im paying 50-60 anymore. Im now thinking Toni + Guy charge way too much. What do you AB'rs think?

When I moved down south I couldn't believe the difference in prices. Used to wait till I went home again before getting my hair done lol. There are such varying prices around!
By the way i'm no longer a hairdresser!

I used to pay mega money in London to get my hair done ..we now live in the sticks and I pay eleven quid for a really good cut wash and dry and only twenty quid for highlights !! And she listens to what I want, not what she thinks I ought to have !
I think you pay for the name with a lot of these salons ..if you are out there Angela you are a brilliant hairdresser ..and this is from the person who loathes going to the hairdressers !

Thanks for your replies girls. Its nice when a hairdresser respect's what the client wants. Next time I go to my new hairdresser,Im having a full colour, hilites, cut and blow dry for 50,not bad eh? Spudqueen, you cant go wrong at 42! Shaneystar, snap! " A Cut Above" came highly recommended for me:-))
Well back in the old days (a few years ago now) I used to pay Trevor Sorbie (the man) to cut my hair for 90. Then I went abroad and came back and went to Choppers for a bit (5 a cut) as it was convenient but decided that it didnt matter what I told them I walked out looking like everyone else and had a buzzing in my ear. For the past 4 years I have visited my local T&G and found a really good stylist (38 a go) who has since decided to do my hair freelance at home for a reasonable fee and he does a smashing job once a month.
My wife used to use the same T&G but now prefers a cheaper salon down the road that does a better job and she feels more relaxed with the camp stylist than the catwalk scowling blond bombsites at T&G.

The problem with Toni & Guy is that they do their own training. They do not like people to cut how everyone else up and down the country does. its quite bizarre. My sister is a senior stylist with loads of experience. She went to Toni and Guy for an interview and was told they would retrain her !!
She didnt need retraining as she works for a classy salon and is at the top of her game.
They have signature haircuts and will put it on you if it suits you or not. The prices are horrific too

I find with a lot of the franchises such as T & G, Regis, Headmasters etc they have such a huge turnover of staff that when you get used to a particular stylist they move on!
I am lucky to have a freelance hairdressser who has persuaded me for the first time in over 20 years to grow my hair longer - I love it.
