My mate , and his father too as i happens, doesn't get hangovers no matter how much he drinks or what mix of drinks he's offered. i have tried many times to get him to suffer as we all do but to no avail - except that i'm as sick as a dog obviously. Any thoughts why this should be and should i sell his body to Beechams? He's in his mid 30's by the way so youthful vigour can't be the reason anymore...
Little is known about the physiology behind hangovers. If we knew, there'd doubtless be a cure by now. It may be genetic, but I guess your mate and his dad are just lucky!
The best anser I can think of from experience is to drink a glass of milk before you start drinking the night before (this is said to prevent you from throwing up- that night and the next morning).
To get rid of that banging headache the morning after I can only suggest lots of water and some paracetamol.
Appart from those methods to treat the symptoms, there isn't really a cure- unfortunately.
Get some Turkish rakı. Give them several doubles of that, and follow with some good helpings of Scotch. Or I suppose the other way round will do. That'll get them sloshed all right, and I'd be surprised if they don't get hangovers. If you can't get rakı, perhaps Pernod will do.
Drinking water in between alcoholic drinks definitely helps in avoiding a hangover. You should try just ordering a pint of water with each round and even if you only take a coupkle of mouthfuls of water for every couple of drinks you'll notice a difference in the morning.
the headache you get is because your brain swells up and rubs on the inside of your skull or something. This happens because you are dehydrated or something. I have found that milk thistle tablets are a great preventative measure. You can buy them from boots, take one before you start drinking, and one after. Come morning, you won't have a hang over.
