Contraceptive Pill ...
4 Answers
One for you ladies; i got the pill on thursday, so have only been taking it for two days so far. Was told that sickness and diarrohea would affect it .. so apologies for being graphic but i have been suffering from the latter the last few days .. not a bad case of it, i just wondered if it would have affected my pill? I take it at around 9am and manage to go a good few hours without going to the toilet lol .. but will it still work? And if not, what should i do?

Most are not effect until you have been taking them for seven days anyway but the mini pill is effective immediately as far as I am aware. In any case , I would definitely suggest using extra contraception such as condoms in the meantime just to be on the safe side , as if you have been vomiting or suffering from diarrohea , then the chances are it may well have affected your pill taking. As Crete suggests though , read the accompanying leaflet to your pills for more accurate information and if you are still in doubt , consult your GP when your surgery is open again.
the leaflet should tell you at what time periods diarrohea n sickness affect the effectiveness of the pill, for example, within 12 hours of taking your pil etc. If your upset stomach has occurred within the given time frame you should use extra protection (eg. condoms) for 7 days after your stomach upset has completely cleared up. If you're in the slightest doubt, use extra protection, better safe than sorry! Hope u get well soon!
